The reason why I think some people may think the new frigate is 529 is because of the antenna around the sides of the top of the mast, here covered.

Here uncovered.

I am not sure what those things are although I have suspicions, but one thing for sure they were not there when Zhoushan was commissioned. These arrays were a test refit to the Zhoushan at a much later date. There are similar things on the last batch of 054A, but were installed on the mast tower with the Type 364 radar. I have not seen any other 054A with these arrays set on the front mast other than 529 Zhoushan with the installation of such occuring at a later time period.

Note also the lack of the cylindrical marshmallow array on top of the hanger. The array is also lacking in the 054A behind 529.

I am pretty sure that the frigate being built is a very new build.

I think @Interstellar is right. This is the 529 being upgraded in the dry dock. Zoom in on the image below, note the distinct contours of her bow, which are only featured on the first four units of the 054A series. I had my doubts about this being a new build when I first posted the images, because the background buildings behind the dry dock didn't match those in a previous image of the Pakistani 054A. However, since I couldn't think of other possibilities, I sort of hedged it a bit with my statement.

Makes sense. This can be the upgrade where 529 got those antenna on the mast and the one on the back. Every 054A has a scheduled maintenance where a minor refit is done that adds those antenna on the back, although the ones on the mast of 529 were never repeated on other 054A. This is the yard that does the refits.

新批次054A型护卫舰已经追加,第31号舰命名为中国人民解放军海军资阳舰

Wasn't that ship suppossed to be built for PN? Or is it some other hull that was unaacounted for (highy unlikely)?

I thought the last count was 30 commissioned and 2 more outfitting before they switch to the Pakistani ship. So 1 left to go before the end of type 54A program

I have never seen on any Chinese warship construction site that more than 30 054A's were being or have been built for the PLAN? You people not getting confused with 054A's for export markets?

If you are happy with 30 type 54A + 2 type 54 now being mod into type 54A= 32 Type 54A happy now?
