A steel cutting ceremony for the final two Type 054 A/P Frigates for Pakistan Navy was held at Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in China on November 1st.

Naval News understands that this steel cutting was for the third and fourth Type 054A/P frigates on order by Pakistan. A similar ceremony for the second frigate was held in December 2018 at Hudong Zhonghua shipyard.

Plus PN is interested to induct some used DDGs from PLAN... Talks are ON but numbers & types are unknown ... as per rumors PN is looking for 2 - 4 DDGs ...

I heard Bangladesh might be interested with the two 054, and I suppose so does Pakistan. For now I would consider that the two ship classes, the 2 x 052B and the 2 x 054, all four ships have been stripped of their equipment and might be up for grabs. If they are ever sold they would likely get a midlife refit such as adding that SR2410C radar I posted. These discussions might take a while with the potential costs of these upgrades.

Or perhaps ... Souvs ..... and what about 051B...

Are the 2 additional F22p cancelled?

There were no additional F22Ps .... the option was there but never exercised because of the 054A development ....

Now PN is working the options to upgrade their existing fleet of F22Ps....

Post 2020 PN looks like below .... which IMO will be a formidable force .....
  • FFGs - 054A/Ps - 04
  • FFGs - F22Ps - 04
  • COVs - Melgium - 04
  • OPVs - Damen - 02 + 02
  • SSKs - Yaun/Quing - 08
  • SSKs - Augusta 90B - 03
  • SSKs - Augusta 70 - 02.
Plus several FACs/logistical & support ships, MPAs...

Further, PN is well equipped with LRCM of different types, enough to keep the enemy at least 600 - 1000kms away from their waters...and keep its SLOC & EEZ open...

DDGs for PN is going to be very costly. For what purpose? Is Pakistan looking to challenge India in the seas? That's going to require quite a lot more than just 2-4 DDGs. The SAMs and missiles are going to be fielded in very limited numbers and you're looking at supporting many branches of very niche weapons systems. The low scale will make it prohibitively expensive unless China is selling at the same price it's paying for it's own navy. What sort of role will the navies play in a war? Unless India gets serious numbers of capable carriers and many more Mig-29Ks I don't think they'd be using them to outflank Pakistan. If PN needs anything, it would be greater numbers of modern AIP submarines.

Seems you haven't read the previous posts.... I said PN is looking to acquire used DDGs from PLAN .... which might be on lease basis or maybe on soft loans etc. etc.

Still gonna be very costly, you’re looking at maybe as much money as a Kongo/Atago class if it’s one of the newer DDGs. Even larger economies struggle with fielding many of them. A couple of 052 would just be white elephants that drain resources at crippling speeds by existing.

The main point of ships like that is to provide air shield and ASW far from shore, and to protect against countries attacking from sea. That’s why they are relevant to China and Japan, but Pakistan’s main enemy is not nearly as powerful at sea (and has almost no power projection worth speaking of) as they are on land.

Getting a sovremenny might be more affordable but there’s little it can do that missile boats can’t. And it’d still be expensive if it has refits, not to mention much of the fleet would be tied up defending this symbol of national pride during war.
