This is probably 120 Chengdu, unmarked yet as she leaves Dalian for trials. The CIWS gun on her is a Type 1130. From this side, the 1130 has more distance from the drum to the back of the CIWS than the 730, and it has a more hulkish, squarish look. Note the clean arrays without the probes underneath, signifying a new variant of Type 346A radar with a different and improved calibration and diagnostics method.

119 Guiyang is the first 052D commissioned that was from Dalian. This ship has the older style of array with the probes and Type 730, which makes her a Batch 1 ship.

120 Chengdu is the second 052D from Dalian. This is important to know because 119 and 120 are the exceptions ---- because pretty much every 052D from Dalian after these two ships are the lengthened version. Only 119 and 120 are the short ones. 120 is a Batch 2 ship, and we have to consider the lengthened ships as Batch 3.





This is 155 Nanjing. She is the only ship that has the newer array but also has the Type 730 CIWS. 730 looks more like a trapezoid from the front and from the side. The ESM units near the Type 366 are the old style cylinder ones, the newer batch is rounded capped at the top like R2D2.





Going to recheck pictures, if 120 Chengdu does indeed have Type 730, she would be the only other ship with the newer array but still using Type 730 and I will update my recognition database.

Looks like I found it. 120 Chengdu is much like 155 Nanjing then. She has the newer array, but the Type 730 and the older style oil filter cylinder shaped ESM. That's a transition ship between the first and second batches.

Sorry, third ship from Dalian is still not extended. That unmarked ship above should be 121 Qiqihar.

Anyone an idea if the new 52D Class DDG 157 and DDG 162 are already in service or at least in their trials?
Both sould be launched by now but there is no information regarding the current status...

Both should be in trials, with 162 Nanning expected to come into service early next year. 157 Huainan should be in service later in 2021.

Lots of photos from ships of the 10th Destroyer Division lately. PLAN seems happy how the "old man's home" has been transformed into a front line fighting force. Another bonus is that all these ships are built in Dalian, and are passing in flying colors so this should decentralize any Jiangnan bias for destroyer preference, saying that Dalian can build them as good. Other than 122 Tangshan, all the DDGs in the 10th are overwhelmingly Dalian made.

Is the second from right guy wearing a smart watch? Would that be a potential security risk given all the sensors and presumably geolocation it has?

I zoomed in a little, it doesn't appear to be any kind of watch at all. It appears to be a wristband or maybe a buckle/loop/velcro from an inner garment/lining of some kind.

is that some kind of modified Z9C? whats on the side there ?
