but why would the be the last? will they stop at 8 x Type 055 before re-starting and 25th x Type 052DL doesnt seem like a good number to stop at
Because there aren't any more pre assembled parts on side berths as usual in jiangnan or dalian shipyards that could indicate newer units. Besides, these were the speculated numbers for quite some time.
So now, cruiser line (055) has ended construction with no indication/prototype of a follow on unit(055a).
Same with destroyer line (052d) without any indication of a 052e.
054a has ended without confirmation of a 054b/057.
056a probably has fulfilled the required numbers of total corvettes, so no follow on.
Seems like the next few years will be quite boring.

So, replying to both of you...

They are likely the "last" in the sense that they're not going to be immediately laying down new hulls after the 8th 055 and 25th 052D is launched from that drydock.

I suspect within a couple of years large surface combatant construction will re commence in earnest with a new generation of ships.

The specific part I was more replying to was "So now, cruiser line (055) has ended construction with no indication/prototype of a follow on unit(055a)."

I think it's more accurate to say the the current batch of 055s are finished rather than "ended production" of the 055 line.

When you say "no indication/prototype of a follow on unit(055a)" that's also confusing because it makes it could mean you think there is no 055A that is on the horizon.

I wrote that because I wanted to clarify that 055 construction has not "ended" but rather that the current phase of 055 construction has ended. 055A is basically guaranteed to emerge in the near future as well, but just because they aren't immediately building 055A after completion of the current phase of 055 construction doesn't mean there is "no indication" of 055A in the near future.
The reason I clarify this is because when you wrote "remember these are probably the last units" creates room for misunderstanding because it implies no further 055 family ships will be built in the future and the entire line may end at 8 ships.

Furthermore, I would also disagree with the assessment of the frigate situation -- I personally expect 054B/057 to emerge within the next couple of years, probably before 055A.

When you say "no indication/prototype of a follow on unit(055a)"
I meant something like the mast mockup of a type 055a(like we saw related to 055, or something else that could be signature to the 055a) hasnt yet appeared, to verify if progress is being made and validation of subsystems is on, so the ambiguity still prevails (specifically regarding the timeline, since its almost certain to enter production at some point.)
Ofcourse it'll arrive, but right now, we're just not sure when, and that shouldn't be as big of an issue, but we've been spoilt by PLAN in the last few years to expect ships being delivered like hot cakes.

"no indication"
Again, i meant specifically, for now.

I do too...
But it'd have been a nice transition if we knew exactly what it would look like before the recent hiccups of ddg/cg class hit to refocus the plan watching libido without loosing interest.

Do we have any idea what those production lines will make after the destroyers ? Or will they shift personnel to speed up fitting them ?

Both shipyards are actually quite busy with LNG powered or scrubber fitted container ships and LNG carriers.

World shipping lines are in a major transition of retiring older, dirtier for cleaner burning ships. EU has imposed green standards that tighten every year, and ships have to meet these standards in order to enter EU ports.

The profits for making these ships could be better than making warships, so these shipyards might be eager to shift more resources into building these ships.

This is also true of Hudong Zhonghua, but their facility to build commercials ships and LNG carriers is located in Changxing Island, next to Jiangnan Shipyard, while their facility in Huangpu river which is the one that builds the military ships appears to have a steady flow of military contracts. The warship facility is too small to build large commercial ships. This facility is currently busy with 054AP after launching the 075s, and I believe after the 054AP, the Thai 071E is next along with the first 057/054B.

PLAN is the one giving out these contracts, if they paused 052D and 055 production, they should have a good reason of its own. It might be possible a next generation of 052X might be in the works, along with an improved 055. They might also be increasing nuclear sub production. Who knows.

JIangnan will certainly be busy with 003, and they also have other projects like Yuelong 3, China's second domestic ice breaker, which is going to be double the displacement of Yuelong 2.

Also would be neat if people take shots of what Guanzhou Huangpu shipyard is doing. We have not seen pictures of that shipyard of late, when we used to have tons of them before.

I'm not sure if expecting an 055A mock up is a given -- if 055A fields broadly the same sensor suite as 055 then a mock up may not be necessary for the purposes of electronic integration testing.
We didn't have a dedicated 052D mock up before it emerged either, in fact most new surface combatant classes of the PLAN didn't require a dedicated mockup, and 055 seems to be the exception in that regard.

I understand that now, but your replies to asif before were not as clear, because it could have been misunderstood as referring to the end of 055 production overall rather than just a temporary end (or even pause) of production.

Waiting for confirmation of what a new ship class looks like is part of the what makes PLA watching so interesting.

Whatever short pause we have over the next year or more of waiting for new PLAN ship class details is going to be nothing compared to the long delay between the initial launch of the first pair of 052Cs and then the long wait of 052C production restart and the eventual long awaited emergence of 052D

Even though making profits is important for a commercial shipyard, but warships are even more important since they protect the country from foreign interference which would disrupt the economy.

It looks like they are cranking out something important at Guangzhou Huangpu, that is why they are not allowing pictures to come out?

How do you know something important is being built at HP shipyard?..........and if so what is it speculated to be?
