So many Type 052D developments this year, it was almost hard to keep up...

Destroyer (NATO reporting name Luyang III class) was launched on December 28 2015 at the Jiangnan-Changxing naval shipyard near Shanghai.

Three Type 052D Destroyers were launched in 2015 and this is the eigth vessel of the type to be launched by Jiangnan-Changxing shipyard (the ninth unit in total). Chinese spotters published on the same day pictures showing blocks/modules of the tenth Type 052D ready to be assembled in the dry construction dock.

At least 12 Type 052D Destroyers are expected to be built for the PLAN, ten of them by Jiangnan-Changxing naval shipyard near Shanghai and two by Dalian naval shipyard in Northeast China.

Now my question is this

We have 8 x JNCX and 1 x DL

That's 9

If the total is 12 that order will be filled by two more from JNCX and 1 from DL next year

So in 2016 Type 052D ends and 2017 we see Type 055 from JNCX and 2018 from DL

Now if they continue Type 052D then it will be hell busy !!

Hard to say.

I personally believe we definitely could see more Type 052Ds and have them being built concurrently with the Type 055.

Perhaps 18 Type 052Ds and maybe nine or twelve Type 055s,

Time will tell!

it's really hard to say how many they will build as we've seen with 054A. If the ship meets all of their requirements, they will order more than originally planned. If 055 is delayed, they will order more.

It's now difficult to believe that 052D will stop at 12, after seeing how quickly the program has been progressing and how DL has just started to build too.

From a need standpoint, China's number of destroyers has not increased much because it has to retire the old ones. I'm thinking it wouldn't be unreasonable to believe that 24 would be built eventually.
