Thailand Cambodia conflict 2025

I'm honestly shocked that Xi or China hasn't taken a more active role in resolving or at least try and formulate some peace agreement.
Regardless of the actual outcome, the optics are important. This is even more so considering both Thailand and Cambodia are major trading partners not to mentioned geographical brothers.
An uninvolved China would most certainly be construed as a weak and ineffective China in the eyes of the world.

China is pretty close to both Cambodia and Thailand so it's likely that they're already in deep talks with both countries. The difference is that China's style is to do so behind closed doors and we won't even know it's happening until they make an announcement. The issue is that this conflict is mostly about pride so trying to say things publicly can put certain groups into uncomfortable positions while private statements are much more likely to get results.

Thailand and Cambodia reaffirm ceasefire after China-brokered meeting in Shanghai. (China mediated peace process)

If you haven't learned by now the Chinese prefers quiet diplomatic management that is results based in contrast to bombastic tweets that is vibes based like US, I don't know what to say.

As of Aug 1, 10:00pm, Thailand hasn't released the 20 captured soldiers yet. Only sent back the death and injured ones. Further, there have been boycott Thai products and brands in Cambodia. Nationalism is campaigning their actions. People who continue to buy Thai products are labeled as traitors. etc...

Thai daily consumer products are of decent quality and price. I remember my trip to Phnom Penh and noticing Thai products being widely used by Cambodians. It seems people would need time to stop using Thai products, if they ever do.
