Terror attack in Xinjiang

Reports are 31 killed in terrorists attacks in Xinjiang. They were supposedly hurling explosives out of cars at a crowded shopping center. This is a question that pops in my head about these mass attacks especially when explosives are used... Are they killing Uighurs in the process? The pictures I've seen of this attack show a large crowd at a shopping area and there's a lot of people that don't look Chinese in there. So I expect they can't selectively target only Chinese in a crowd like that with explosives. It's just like police station attacks. Not all the police there are Chinese. Is this is pretty much like the anti-Chinese riots in Vietnam where the media made no mention the Vietnamese burned down non-Chinese factories so it looked like it was only Chinese?

We haven't even progressed halfway into the year and already there's been three terrorist attacks. One can only hope 2014 will be the year that the CCP prove themselves worthy successors to Emperor Wu of Han in terms of dealing with irritants to China.

Those coward terrorists are going after civilian targets now, because they're having a hard time battling the PAP and are desperate. Tough, I hope China wipe out the entire terrorist organization for peace sake.

They are all Chinese, even the terrorist scum who launched the attacks.

And since when did terrorists give a damn what nationality or race their victims are? Their goal is mass murder and terror and they don't care who or how many they kill.

I have said it before and I will say it again, its not enough to just go after the terrorist foot soldiers, China need to take out the financers and planners of these attacks, who usually reside outside of China.

It rather reinforces the notion of a desperate movement that has lost popular support and has to resort to ever more barbaric atrocities.
Remember that the victims killed ans injured will come from all Chinese communities and not simply be one or the other.

The aim of attacks like this is try and cause separation and isolation of communities and from there attempt to ferment Jihad by exploiting religious and racial lines. Generally trying to spread hatred and fear among the general population nation wide.

The knee jerk over reaction is therefore something which needs to be avoided. I am sure the Chinese State understands this, but the concern will be hot heads in the civil population.

It may help to remember that success for the terrorists in this endeavour means a Xinjaing that looks like Afghanistan or Syria.

I agree. Though China don't look for trouble, trouble will come looking for China. There are state sponsored terrorism, terrorist cells nurtured by intelligence agencies to become extremists, foreign funding troublemakers. These can be benign groups from harmless animal right activists to more nasty potent suicide bombers. There also homegrown extremists, you just need to supply them some guns, books, materials and healthy dose of propaganda.

Usually, these are difficult to be stop and required many parallel solutions to be in place. Improve socio economic conditions, improve security condition, news, intelligence activities and perhaps darker solution kind like state sanction assassination. Example, US drones to takeout enemy of the state without following any law. We don't ask China to follow such extreme but sometimes this is a must, some hidden\dark action to eliminate one foes are necessary kinda like ninja.

A bit sad, the innocents are killed. Always pain the heart when lives are lost due misplace justice, revenges and extreme ideals.

We don't know the actual root cause. Could be revenge attack. This is where the perpetrators need to be caught, and some "confession" need to be extracted out (think Guantanamo Bay) via some dark means. The state need to know the cause of such attack. I'm not sure, truth serum or some torture can be done to find out why they do what they did. This also shows the failure of the CCP intelligence gathering and they cannot handle such situation and not able to stop them. Due the recent political persecution of the previous intelligence chief, some loyalty and restructuring of the intelligence community may hinder their ability to react. There will be a 4th and 5th attack...because the organizers are still at large.
