Shenyang next gen combat aircraft thread

I just wanted to fix some past mistakes in my observations with the clearer photo. Red is the groove, yellow is what is clearly visible outlines, and on the weapons bay the yellow also is where there is a visible black seal like material similar to the the edges of the control surfaces, which points to a general weapons bay length. The orange bits are what I just made up to complete the yellow lines to form a better visual representation.

Looking and looking at the enhanced images, imo i think the main bay as drawn above is too short. I think it should go further back closer to that black thing in the middle behind the wheels (APU apperture, Luneberg lens, EO housing?) and also further forward, and possibly V shaped forward, or alternatively, like i think someone drew it recently, a middle section that projects more forward than the two other sections under the intakes. There is the line right in the middle of the fuselage which i think is showing the bay outline rather than the groove (which is there too though probably not as pronounced as we might think).

Just a simple visualization. These are not small weapons bays by any means, it's just smaller than the J-36.
(The areas are squished together i.e the J-XD bays are not a large singular section but split by a groove)
(Large portion of the J-20 bay is unusable which is what the blue block is)
I believe a new slightly larger than PL-15 missile could be in development for the J-XDS main bay

By this, the smaller side IWBs on the J-XDS (if they do exist and the illustrated size is accurate) certainly can't fit PL-15-sized AAMs.

In the meantime, at this point - I think it would be safe to have the default assumption that the J-XDS has one (main) IWB that is of similar dimensions as those IWBs on the J-20/A/S. That means ruling out equipping the J-XDS with AAMs that are of PL-17-sized or larger.

As for whether there are smaller side IWBs on the J-XDS - We would need some lucky breaks. But if there isn't any smaller side IWBs on the J-XDS, then I really do hope that the one (main) IWB would be deeper, whether that to allow AAMs with larger diameters or to allow the vertical stacking of AAMs.

Chinese community netizens speculate that the side is occupied by the landing gear storage compartment.:eek:View attachment 150211
I believe that could also be a possibility, except that is far too small for a PL-10 bay, so there could just not be a side bay which is a possibility I believe. Unless they shrink the PL-10 to 2m. This also connects some dots with whatever that thing is on the supposed door.

Got it. It's a laser gun. Can't have a better explanation.

6th gen should not only have next-gen airframes, but also next-gen weapon. For example, use DEW as Active Protection Systems, which is also mentioned in that previous paper, where former chief designer Yang Wei discussing 6th gen fighters' requirements.

Time to think more about self-defense. If J-XDS indeed installs some kind of laser guns, there're no better positions than side bay.

Could be a thing, if it's full fledged AA aircraft, it could rely on way less missile types and have stacking missiles magazines more or less.

If it is designed with naval considerations, shouldn’t it carry at least one smaller anti ship missile internally, preferably two. Or is that left to the drones
