Due to the rapid movement in the commercialization of quantum computers, I think it's worthy to get it's own thread.

To start off, the impact of quantum computer is quite obvious.

and they've done a lot of good stuff in the past year with CAS, Origin Quantum and Anhui Quantum computing research center

All of the above is very important in creating quantum chips, EDA software and quantum machine production line.

But more than anything else, Origin Quantum is getting into the commercialization of quantum computer. This will provided positive feedback loop with customer base and industrial usage that will hopefully continue to put quantum computing into practical usage.

so far, Origin Quantum has developed their quantum computer cloud with an ecosystem consisting of Quantum language (QRunes) and SDK (QPanda) with Python library support. Looks like C++ is the preferred supporting language here. But it's quite interesting to see who will get to make use of this. We know that China mobile and various medical organization are among the earliest customers of Origin Quantum.

They have now developed the first laser annealing instrument dedicated to the production of quantum chips. I don't know what they are still importing from abroad. Given the geopolitical sensitivity surrounding quantum computer R&D, they will definitely need to rely on just Chinese machines for production. At this pace, Origin Quantum will get put on the entity list soon enough.

So they have the non-destructive probe to detect defects and then use laser annealing instrument to fix them.

The eventual goal of quantum computing is not to just use them for data centers, but also allow their usage from personal computers using quantum computing cloud. Quantum computing is there to speed up processing of large amount of data.

In this August, Hefei Quantum communication city opened up and became China's largest and most widely used Quantum MAN. It provides quantum encryption transmission services and process access service for industries such as finance, energy and medical care. This will provide incentive from companies to build up ecosystem surrounding area.

Origin Quantum built 2 labs. In Jan 2022, it build Quantum chip manufacturing/packaging lab as well as Quantum computing assembly and testing lab. This allows full stack development from quantum chip to quantum computing hardware/software integration.

Origin Quantum was established just 5 years ago with 30 people and has already become China's first company to deliver quantum computing machines with production supply chain and industry application chain and science eduction chain. The applications include finance, biochem, medicine, smart manufacturing and education.

Ciqtek has been around since 90s in the field of quantum precision measurement. Their products have been delivered to hundreds of customers such as Tsinghua university and oversea customers in US, Germany and Australia.

there is also QuantumCTek.

Hefei is becoming China' Quantum valley.

This news is simply astounding.

They made this chip. Then they patent the workarounds to enable more stability of chip itself, and improve the yields in the manufacturing of this chip.

All this means is they made this chip, now Huawei will try to find a way to mass produce them.

This leads to a question, that people do not even know how to ask.

What exactly are the computational powers of these quantum chips? More precisely, what are the computational powers of these Chinese made quantum chips?

The problem facing quantum computing is that there are very few algorithms that works with quantum computation.
Yes, it can be much faster at certain tasks compare to normal computers, but for general computation needs, more algorithm needs to be developed to work with quantum computers.

Right, I think what origin quantum is doing right now is amazing. Up until now, it's basically been large tech companies building their own quantum computers and then developing algo for them. It's not open to public.

By opening up their api to industrial users or just 3rd party developers on their quantum cloud, they are going to develop industries and ecosystem to support utilization of quantum computing. And then they get more test users and can fix up their system.

In America, Google and ibm are closed in with their own computers and that's closed to outside. Everyone wants to develop the first working quantum computer and force the public to use it.

Origin quantum by opening it up with a cloud that combines quantum computer with other resources basically made themselves the defacto standard in china for all quantum computer users. I am sure they got the backing of cas and other companies in the hefei quantum valley. It's probably just Huawei and baidu that will be bitter. Based on what we are now seeing in ai, it's better for Chinese quantum industry to consolidate around one standard a lot sooner.

And working with china mobile and building collaboration with super computers means that they can take advantage for the few calculations intensive tasks that current quantum computers actually can do and make it a lot faster than your typical super computers. So it's going to be interesting to see who else signs up this year.

Origin quantum does not have the best quantum computing technology if you look at the number of qubits. They just happen to attempt commercialization and industrial usage much earlier than everyone else. Its kind of like with j20. Originally, j20 with al31fn was no ideal, but it allowed them to find areas of improvement, develop their sustainment practice and maintenance procedures and use it developing combat tactics. All of which have made current j20s with ws10c a lot better, more sustainable and supportable with very high production rate.

I think this is actually one scenario where the Chinese model just kills the western model in developing new product. The willingness to put things into usage and quickly iterate rather than secretively trying to build the most amazing platform.

They got a Quantum + Super computer collaboration with Hefei Quantum Research lab.
“‘量超协同’系统解决方案可以理解为一套‘运算作战’的指挥系统,超级计算机可辅助量子计算机完成量子计算流程,处理量子计算机不擅长的工作;量子计算机可用于加速处理复杂计算任务。”安徽省量子计算工程研究中心副主任窦猛汉说,对于某些特定计算,如果采用超级计算机,功率是在兆瓦级别,而采用量子计算能耗上将大大减少

this is probably the biggest deal. Signing contract with China Mobile to do all that 5G/6G computation is a big deal toward commercialization. China mobile has a lot of money to make this happen.
