09V/09VI (095/096) Nuclear Submarine Thread

Jeff, is it even possible to change usernames?

Because warnings won't matter if he is not able to actually go ahead and change it.

I've asked a few times as well about whether it is possible, because I would like to correct the typo in my username, but afaik it is not possible.

It's about time you had the ability to change it to "Blitzo". :)

Interesting observation from a spotter: could this be the first 09V submarine?

The first photo (below) is of a 09III. Take note of the distance between the front of the conning tower to the bow at waterline level.

Now, compare it with the following photo (apparently another 09III), in which there is a considerable difference in the length from the tower to the bow when compared to the first photo. Some people are suspecting that it could be an indication that the torpedo tubes have been moved to the sides to make room for a bow sonar, and that this boat is the first 09V unit.

I don't know the dimensions of it, but could one of them be an 09I SSN instead?

Or, conversely, could both of them be 09III, but one is merely sitting deeper in the water?

One reason I doubt it is 09V, is because 09V should not have been launched yet, and people like Henri K suspect the first boat will only start steel cutting in the near future.

I think you could be right, it does look like a 09I.

09V, if we go by Henri K's timeline will likely be launched 2020 at the earliest.

Well if there is one thing I learn from watching the PLAN, is that the submarines are their more closely guarded secret. For all we know, the Type 95 could have been launched already and we did still not be the wiser.
There is a deliberate attempt to shift attention away from the submarine programs by hyping up the surface action ones instead. Heck, even the names of the submarines are pretty mundane and unimaginative.

Sorry but seriously how you want 095 exist not yet build ! in more this GE view is not new and you can't mesured with accuracy with a Sat view i know the job...

Agree for me if the construction start for some months can be launched in 2020 -21 after sea trials for the lead class in more a nuclear
there are often delay so in service for 2022 - 23 seems reasonnable Henri K saying 2023 in a previous report
Actualy they build normaly the last 093B but dépends the number.
The first 095 can be N° 417 or 419 dépends 093A/B number 4 - 6 ...

"production in mass "
- 4 x 094/094A
- 2 x 093
- 1 or 2 x 093A
- normaly 4 x 093B total with 093A : normaly 6 but i have see possible the 2nd 093 can be upgraded in 093A

Saying 10 do in average 0.7-0.8 / year so " production in mass " means more but not necessarily as USA/USSR in 1980's...

BTW all main navies have increase the rythm now USA receive 2 by year, Russia about 1, UK 1 all 2 years and same for France soon, Indian Navy also increase and Brazil had planned but with economic problems less sure.

Chinese as Soviets subs don't have name only hull number Russians have a name since Russia has been recreated

I don't think UK, France, Brazil or India (yet) can be talked about as having a 'rhythm' in constructing nuclear submarines. They don't/won't have enough orders to sustain construction, whereas I think we can assume that China will, even if that rate is only 1 unit per year.

I have looked and looked and aparntly there is no such option.

I have already posted a suggestion to @WebMaster to look into giving us that option.

In @cunnilingist 's, I will PM him and email him to let him know he needs to sign back up with a new name. SD does not want to allow that name to stand and it will be deleted.

Nuclear submarines is an expensive and very demanding business, in fact it did be far cheaper to maintain a vast fleet of diesel electric class subs instead with the only real trade off of lack of endurance.
As far as official records are concerned, the UK never had more than 10 SSGNs in service at any given time. And with the possible economic upheaval coming from Brexit it is unlikely that they will ever do even if current world tensions calls for it. Ditto goes with France.
Russia is making up for lost time of the 1990s, the Yasens that it produce will almost certainly replace the assorted numbers of Oscars, Victors, Sierras and Akulas that are going to be retired in the near future.
India's nuclear submarine project is more currently more concerned with tinkering and research than any serious deployment. In fact I would be very surprised if they have a working domestic design up and running before 2030. Brazil is even less likely to have a nuclear submarines of their own before the turn of the half century. They don't have any serious research going on atm and they certainly can't buy any from other nations (nuclear propulsion is a very closely guarded secret) . They might do what India did and rent one but that hardly counts.
So the only 2 nations in the world that is currently having any serious nuclear submarine procurement projects would be the US and China (If what we know about the new construction hall in Bohai is true).
But this is going way off track so I am going to stop here.
The Type 95 when it is deployed would most certainly rock the military status quo of Asia.
