09III/09IV (093/094) Nuclear Submarine Thread

Is this confirmed or is this like a few years ago where they made these accusations of Chinese submarine activity around India without any proof?

What's funny is there's suppose to be this huge scandal in India right now over the classified Henderson Brookes Report on the 1962 war being leaked after fifty years. They seem to be making the same mistakes now spinning the story.

China should divert the SSN to south Indian Ocean to search for the black box of MH370. Would be a big propaganda coup and demonstration of capability if they find it first.

The Indian Ocean is a big place, and the Indian navy can't be expected to control every part of it, only the areas closest to home, so really this isn't a big story in that sense.

It is however, notable that china actually told other nations of its nuke sub patrol, or at least this particular one. I expect this announced patrol wasn't the first in the area, and a series of other patrols probably preceded it.

India, by international law, is only entitled to control her territorial waters, which extends no further than 12 nautical miles from her coast. Military vessels are free to navigate beyond that limit, even if they are sailing within India's EEZ.

So China's informing India of the patrol was a nice gesture, but it also served to demonstrate a new posture and a new capability, which no doubt put India on notice.

Off Topic: I highly doubt India even has the resources to control her own territorial waters, let alone the Indian ocean. India's navy is ill-maintained, under-equipped, and poorly trained.

Good luck, even if they hear the pings, they would have no way to recover it.

don't have to. just find the pings and call it a 071 search and recovery group. a SSN is going to be a better sonar platform, free to change depth according to the local hydrographic conditions. can transit to the area faster, is immune to search weather condition and have longer endurance.

At the depths we are talking about there, 12,000-13,000 feet, no SSN will recover it anyway.

They will use specialized remote controlled, deep diving subs like they did with the French aircraft a few years ago in the Atlantic, which they recovered the black box two years later from a depth of 13,000 feet.

The US is using P-8A aircraft now, and if they really gt serious there in the Southern Indian Ocean, they will send a couple of refuelers in there to keep those birds on the search grid for longer periods of time.

Even then, it is much worse than a needle in a haystack. There is no sure thing that the debris the sat saw, even if they do find it, is at all associated with the MH370 flight. There's lots of debris floating around in the world's oceans.

I hope they find it...but it is going to take a lot of analyzing, a lot of eyes on the water, and a lot of luck...almost miraculous luck at this point.

...if it even crashed at all. There is no evidence (ie. no emergency locator beacons) to indicate it did. Just too much unknown at this point.

A big piece of news...The military insider pop3 is asserting that the late 093 variant has twenty four vertically launched land attack cruise missiles and anti ship missiles. In a similar report, the upcoming next generation ballistic missile submarine will also sport vertically launched conventional and ballistic missiles.

well, it does have a hump, so I guess that's possible.

I see seven missiles in that launcher, with one in the middle. Seven does not divide into 24. So is it 21, or 28?

Also, I would like to see, on any Type 093, precisely where these VLS launchers are...the actual covers for them on the deck of the vessel.

093 sub uses a different system; the multiple-missile launcher is for the 096.
