We will probably see those type 53s replaced by newer frigates, and then perhaps some additional ones will come too. The same way we're seeing expansion of absolute numbers of destroyers.

Absolutely. Sources indicate that there will be no more 054A in the future.

Does this mean the production of the Type 056A has ended? This also suggests the Type 056 are also used as training ships.

阿坝舰为056A系列的建造画上句号,这71艘高级教练舰将会为刚刚起步的远洋海军源源不断地输送各类舰员人才。

The Aba ship ended the construction of the 056A series. These 71 senior training ships will continuously transport various types of crew talents for the just-launched ocean navy.

You can look at it in two ways, as regard to type 056 being a training ship.

1) A sarcastic remark (may be based on opinion of the writer that type 056s are relatively useless comparing with capital ships), or

2) Type 056's main roles are inshore patrols, escorts and harbour securities etc make it an ideal on the job training for fresh sailors to further their postings on larger frigates/destroyers/aircraft carriers.

The current plan of China Navy maybe to build 71 type 056 corvette and the construction has stopped. The last one is 630 Aba, was launched on December 30, 2019

Well, the high construction of warships then seems to be on its last legs? And expect a much more sustainable speed from here on..
Newest classes from the respective categories are winding down without any hint of follow ons.
054a and 071 are already finished.
052d and 056 will be finishing this year.
055 and 075 lines remain functional..

Could be, but 055 production may also increase if 052d/x stops. And 054b/057 may/is likely to start within a few years. 093 production is likely to increase greatly, then gradually turn into 096 production. And of course there's the carriers, which just by themselves cost probably like 10-20 destroyers per each carrier both in initial cost and in crew requirements.

I think the Type-071 will continue for a while.
For a Taiwan contingency, there's a shortage of amphibious ships.
Plus it's better to have an excess of amphibious ships for both the initial assault and ongoing resupply.
And they're pretty cheap. Thailand is buying a Type-071E for $200M, and the Chinese version is supposed to be $300M.

For the Type-52D, I reckon there will be at least 30 built, which means construction will continue for a while longer.
But it's a good question as to what happens afterwards.

As for the "sustained" rate of destroyer construction, I reckon somewhere between 3-6 per year.

Something which has come to mind.

After the Sino-Soviet split in 1960, Chinese military spending doubled in 5 years, from $6.7B to $13.7B
**Figures are per Kennedy

it's something to bear in mind with the breakdown in the US-China relationship.
