054/A FFG Thread II

I thought I'd post this really nice photo I saw on CDF. This shows AK-176M and the decoy launchers on 054A firing off decoys.

Those are not decoy's but short range ASw rockets. Nice picture tough.

ASW depth charges often act as torpedo decoys as the sound and shock of the explosions they make will definitely affect any sonar like the torpedo's until the sound and shockwaves are fully cleared.

I believe when 052B was on public display, this type of launcher was stated to have multiple uses. I presume that ASW mortars and decoy were all such uses.

052B and 052C have modified Type 947 (apparently 100mm instead of 130mm) chaft/decoy launchers (in 052B aside the Shitll launcher). 054A has them too fitted aside the hangar where the Ak-630s were in 054s. The system in the bow is the EDS-25A ASW RL which is just what it is, ASW rocket launcher.

Interesting, I got a bunch of pictures for 168 last year, I just assumed Type 726-4 is also referring to ASW rocket launcher.

It appears that 054A 529 and replenishment ship 886 rendezvoused with DDG 138 (Sovremenny 956EM) and 054 525 coming out from their port visit at Vladivostok. The four ship fleet went through the Tsuguru straits on the way to the Pacific Ocean for training missions. Certainly an interesting development, finally they're doing more deep blue water training.

Basically saying that CCTV 4 talked about 525 today and said that ASW is its main functionality, it has TAS, rockets and torpedoes.

It would be more convincing if they can finally confirm an ASROC variant based on the Yu-7 (Yu-8?). It can possibly be launched off from the YJ-83 cannisters.

it's mostly about 525/138's visit to Vladivostok, they interviewed a couple of admirals about the ships. It talked about a bunch of stuff about the exercise.
They talked about 138 a little bit. The Chinese name of Sov is "modern", I'm guessing that's the original Russian name for that too. So, that confused the interviewer a little bit.
they said about 525 has very good ASW capability, has hull mounted sonar, Towed sonar, ASW helicopter, ASW rockets, torpedoes and Rocket assisted torpedoes (see I think it sounds like ASROC here). You have to listen to past half way through the interview to get to this part.
