Why not put the HQ-10 on top of the new hangar?

The base and motor for the back missile launcher is offset to the side of the hanger. This will have to be removed. Potentially however you can still rebuild the hanger like that of the 052D, which is being done so, with the center of the hanger being raised.

However there is also the base and motor of the forward missile launcher, and they can easily convert that for the HHQ-10 launcher, like on the 054 and Project 956 refits. Easier, cheaper, and faster to do so. Its also the easiest to assume because it already has been done in record at least three times and soon to be four once the other 054 is done with its refit. Not to mention on the 053H3 refits, they also placed HHQ-10s on top of the bases used for previous missile launchers.

That makes sense. But are they still able to find enough room to install a 32-cell VLS for the HHQ-16?

My guess is that they may try to arrange the VLS cells laterally rather than longitudinally, so the channels of the VLS runs left to right rather than north to south.

Another way, is that 16 cells are placed in front, and the other 16 are placed between the hanger and the Type 364 radar at the rear. So if the hanger is one large block, not all of it is the hanger. Forward of the hanger and behind the Type 364 radar, would be another set of VLS nestled in between.

This picture gives you a better idea what I mean. Note the space behind the Type 364 radar (white spherical dome) with the two SATCOMs (two smaller white domes) at the back.

But if they install the HQ-10 on top of the hangar by raising it a little bit, they could get 48 cells for the HHQ-16, right?
