X_X 9 pages is a bit much for 1 person. How about if we get 9 people to do it with 1 page per person?

First picture: cover page (whew, that was easy).
Second picture:
Song SSK started production in 2005, can be equipped with YJ-82.
Yuan entered service 2004
093 enters service this year
(Maybe it's not entered service, but rather launched?)
094 is still undergoing analysis?
there are 5 091 and 1 092.

China started ordering Kilo in 1994. These subs are very quiet
In 2002, China/Russia reached a deal for 7 636 and 1 877EMK in a 2 billion dollar deal.
PLAN already has 6 kilos by March of 2005, should have 12 by 2007.
Other than advanced torpedoes, Kilos can also fire SM54E with 200KM+ in range.

The Xia sub (092) can equip with 12 JL-1 nuclear missiles. It has a range of 2150 KM. JL-2 (developed from DF-31) successfully fired in June of 2005. 094 should join service in 2007. There will probably be 4-7 such subs.

picture 3:
091 SSN (Han)
5 subs numberd 401 to 405.
first 091 began construction in 1968, launched in 1971 and joined force in 1974. However, didn't successfully fire a missile until 1984. Did extensive testing of firing in 1988. Displacement is 4500 tonne. on surface, fastest speed is 12 knots. submerged, fastest speed is 25 knots. can submerge to 300 feet and holds 75 crews.
10,000KM in range?
Has 6 533 mm tubes.
Holds Yu-3 and Yu-1 torpedoes. Can hold 18 torpedoes. Yu-3 travels at 40 knots with 15 KM range.Yu-1 travels at 50 knots with 9 KM range.

picture 4:
It can also hold 36 mines.
can shoot YJ-8 AShM, 40 KM range at mach 0.9

weaknesses with 091:
1) very noisy - it's about 160 db, which is 40 greater than LA attack sub. 30 db higher than Victor 3.
2) not reliable - a lot of details give here. Hard to translate.

092 SSBN (Xia)
displacement - 8000 tonnes, surface speed (16 knots), submerged speed (22 knots), 84 crew.
carries 12 JL-1 missile.

stopping here.

x_X I actually started on the first page (page 44) but forgot to post it yesterday.

My quick and dirty translation:

Page 44
Nuclear and Diesel Power Submarines of PLA Navy

According to US Department of Defense 2005 report on China’s military capabilities, the PLAN’s current submarine fleet consists of 55 attack submarines, including the Kilo class diesel submarines imported from Russia. The latest domestically developed Song class submarines (Type 039G1?) have entered production since 2005, and can carry the YJ-82 missile. (New) Yuan class diesel submarine have entered service in 2004. The Type 093 nuclear attack submarine entered service this year, while the Type 094 is under development. The PLAN currently has 5 Type 091 Han class nuclear attack submarine; in addition to one Type 092 Xia class SSBN. The Type 093 and 094 nuclear powered submarines are either currently under going sea trials or under development, and have not reached operational capability yet.

Since 1994, China has received the Russian built Kilo class diesel submarine, with superior silent running; underwater concealment compared to other diesel subs currently in service. The Kilo submarine’s body and its torpedoes are well suited for shall water areas in the East Sea, Yellow Sea, South Sea, and Taiwan straight. According to the 2002 military purchase, Russia will provide 7 Type 636 and 1 Type 877 EMK submarines. This purchase is worth $2 billion USD. As of March 2005 the PLAN has received 6 Kilo submarines, by 2007 all 12 Kilo submarines should’ve been delivered, taking PLAN’s underwater combat capabilities to a new level. Besides the advanced torpedoes, the Kilo submarine is also equipped with 3M54E submarine launched cruise missile, with over 200 km range, with 10 times better odds vs. defense, providing a large credible threat to Taiwan’s air defense, especially Taiwan’s military bases by eastern shores, and the military/political centers in Taipei.

Overall, the PLAN’s nuclear submarine fleet is few in number, but provides much greater deterrence value versus actual combat potential. Because China’s accelerated development of naval nuclear arms, the Xia class submarine can carry 12 JL-1 nuclear missiles, with 2,150 km range, and the JL-2 nuclear missile (naval version of land based DF-31) nuclear missile has been tested successfully since June 2005, to be equipped on Type 094 SSBN, officially entering combat service in 2007. According to China’s long-term nuclear submarine development plans, in the future years they intend to construct 4-7 SSBN’s (or nuclear attack subs?), in addition to new diesel submarines, providing deterrence to US and Japan from intervention in future Taiwan straight situations.

Picture 5:
The table:
compares 033, 035, 039 and Kilo
033 - displacement 1830 tonne submerged. can dive 300 GongChi (feet?)
surface/subermerged speed - 15.2 knots/13 knots
At surface - 9000 KM range/9 knots
2 37-D diesel engine
8 torpedo tubes
14 torpedoes or 28 mines
10 officials and 44 soldiers
use I-band radar to search (same with other subs)

Ming class
2110 tonne displacement
speed - 15/18 knots
surface range - 8000 KM at 8 knots
16 torpedoes or 32 mines.
8 officials and 46 soldiers

Song class
2250 tonne displacement
speed - 15/22 knots
2 or 3 MTU diesel engine
6 tubes for 16 torpedoes/32 mines
use 921-A ECM?
10 officials and 50 soldiers

Kilo
3076 tonne displacement
speed: 12/16 knots
range: 6000 KM/7 knots
6 tubes for 18 torpedoes or 24 mines
13 officials and 39 soldiers

As for the rest.
JL-12 uses two-staged engine
range is 2150 KM, has 6 torpedo 533mm tubes, can fire Yu-3 torpedoes.
two major weaknesses:
1) JL-1 is very short ranged - 2150 KM.
2) very noisy, 165 db is estimated.

New generation of nuclear attack subs:
-China started developing new nuclear usbs in early 90s. Due to two American carrier groups going past the Taiwan strait in 1996.
093
- based on Victor 3 class
- 6000 tonne in displacement
- 107 foot long
- 11 foot wide
- 7.5 foot high
use 2 150MW PWR engine
cruise speed is 30 knots, 100 crews.

Picture 6:
Victor 3 can perform land attack (LACM), torpedoes and AShM
093 has reduced noise level (uses much noise level reduction techniques)
noise level is probably around 130 db.
close to LA class
If some other noise reduction method are taken, the noise level can be reduced to 110 db.
093 and Victor 3 are similar in size, but 093 has better engine, so the maximum speed can reach 40 knots.

094 SSBN
can be equipped with 16 JL-2 with 8000 KM in range.
can attack anywhere in US home land
increased from 12 to 16 missiles, each JL-2 has 6 warheads, so that gives it the ability to attack 96 targets
equivalent to 8 times the capability of 092
displacement is 12000 tonnes
140 feet long
over 12 feet long
noise level is around 120 db

diesel sub capability
China built 80 R class subs between 60s and 80s.
Due to range issues, cannot perform necessary tasks.
China started improving capability in 80s.
033 R class
currently has 30 such subs, stopped production in 1987
4 were sold to egypt, 7 sold to N. Korea and some sold to Thai Navy.
