Type 054 FFG Note: VLS for HQ 16 :china:
dude, I just posted this in the 054 thread!

Yeah, I'm confused now. There are reports that HQ-16 is a super Tor-M1 and other reports that it is a super Shtil. I wonder which. From the range stated in the article, it sounds like the former.

Re: Plan Pic Thread

I think HQ-16 is the Shtil. I don't see much point of fitting the Tor-M1. It and HQ-7 have similar performances and range.

I can't find anything on Globalsecurity though. The site's been totally changed. But if I remember right, it SAID that it was the Tor-M1, but I kinda have doubts about globalsecurity sometimes.

-------------

HG-16 is Shtil/Grizzily.

SA-17 GRIZZLY is a new mobile SAM system to augment and eventually replace the SA-11 GADFLY. The new system uses the same launch vehicle chassis, and overall has a similar configuration to the SA-11 GADFLY. The SNOW DRIFT surveillance radar is also carried on the modified GM-569 tracked vehicle chassis. Russia is upgrading the Belorussian Buk (NATO: SA-11 Gadfly) air defence missile system at the Uliyanovsk Mechanical Plant. The new Buk-M1-2 (SA-17 Grizzly) system has increased fire power, and guarantees hits against six targets flying simultaneously from different directions and at different altitudes.

The Yezh naval version [SA-N-12] of the SA-17 is visually Identical to SA-N-7.

The HQ-16 is a joint development project between China and Russia that apparently represents a further evolution of the Russian Grizzly. The system would represent a significant overall improvement in Chinese air defense capabilities. The HQ-16 will reportedly have a range of 50 miles and the ability to hit both high and low flying targets.

Re: Plan Pic Thread

yes, but in that article by Kanwa, it said that HQ-16 is based on SA-N-9 Klinok, which is Tor-M1. That would validify newsmax's theory that HQ-16 is a super Tor-M1.

Anyhow, we will see if that is true.
The picture below is on the status of 956EM

For those who can't read Chinese, a brief translation of highlights:

* The fire damage to the 956EM ship has been repaired. The first 956EM is now undergoing sea trials, the 2nd will enter sea trials around August (2006?).

* News from MKB Raduga claim that they will soon deliver the 3M80BME anti-ship missile with the 956EM ships. The new 3M80BME missile has extended range of 240km. Sources claim that the increase in range is the result of new rocket fuel, while the fundamental construction of the missile remains the same (as older 3M80).

For those unfamiliar, MKB stands for Mechanical Design Bureau. MKB Raduga's founders were the original designers of Soviet Union's first anti-ship cruise missile, the KS-1:

* The 956EM has a new integrated battle management system designed by MARS, called SIGMA-E. The system has 9 multifunctional color displays with western style CIC, intergrating weapon systems, sonar, radar, anti-ship missile, anti-air missile, guns, navigation, weather, etc. data.

The article ends with "The 956EM fire control system use P3 CPU and RAM..."

Hey tphuang, Any chance of posting the rest of this article? :)

I will see what I can do. This is all I found on the Chinese forums. It normally takes a while for the forums to post all the kanwa articles.

Yeah, the picture definitely looks like a Zubr. It says in one of the article that 12421 is cancelled by China. I guess China is no longer licensed producing Zubr?

Not sure why they have this picture in an article about the 956 em maybe its because they both use the same anti ship missile.

China got the license to produce Zubr for sure, it's in one of Kanwa's other articles. It's also somewhere on CDF. I'm too lazy to search for it now.
