It was mentionned in a thread on DT recently that PLAN forgot about minesweeper. I did a little search on it and it does seem like China's minesweeping force is extremely outdated and seem to be in even worse shape than its ASW capability.

This is the main article on it.

Any thoughts, maybe I personally missed something. China seems to be expanding its offensive mining operations quite a bit, but minesweeping seems to have stayed pad.

Unlike ASW, minesweeping hasnt evolved a great deal over the last 30 years. the basics are still the same.

well, I have been away for the last month in China, so I've missed this piece of news. It's true that minesweeping hasn't evolved a great deal, but it still needs to be updated to counter the newer types of mines that are getting developed.

Wasn't there another class of mine sweeper launched last year? It appears smaller in size, but has the distinctive 25 mm mount forward.

Maybe two designs to be evaluated by PLAN? Or a coastal craft and this latest one being the ocean going sweeper?

Well thougths its better than nothing to launch down new T-43 type minesweeper, i would like to see some sort of mass production to begun whit the earlyer Mine hunter type vessel as it presents more of what china needs to make its MCM force par whit other major navyes.

In modern minesweeping technics, a rather genuine step took place in the aerly 80's when major NATO navyes begun to replace their WWII era US build minesweepers. The new products were dedicate build mine hunters whit remotely controlled submersibles to hunt down advance bottom-mines and other new generation of mine hunting sonars. Also, these boats introduced the Glass reinforced plastic (GRP) hulls to military ship building and also, many of the new generation of vessels (such as British Sandown and Hunt classes, German Hamenl and the famous Tripartie) could also controll remotely controlled drone mine sweepers to do the actual minesweeping task where the human manned ships dealed the less dangerous hunting task.
Soviet Union folowed whit these paths along their Gorya class MCM vessels, but generally their most numerous MCMs were ordianry sweepers whit some hunting capapility.
China in other hand has totally wondered in WWII era world and completely neglected this one of the most important task of martime military forces.

Well it looks to me that PLAN admirals should attend some history classes. And they really should not look to far back…

They could look at relatively recent history only; maybe CIA operation in Nicaragua in 1984 when CIA merchant ships mined entrances in Nicaraguan ports… Nicaraguans cold French to help and they send couple of mine hunters which destroyed mines. During 51 days (25.02. – 17.4. 1984.) 11 ships hit mines…
Or at events during Iran –Iraq war; when in the beginning of July 1984. when neutral merchant ships started encountering mines in the Read Sea…
Islamic militant organization “Al Jihad” announced that they laid 190 mines in Bab el Maneb passage and in entrance to Sues canal. During next 44 days 18 ships hit mines, merchant ships stopped sailing true Sues canal (that cost Egypt 1.1 billion dollars) and escalation of prices in ship transport.
To counter mine threat Egypt called for international help to clean minefields. 20 minehunters whit support of anti mine helicopters searched for two months and find ONE remaining mine…

Looking at that they may realize that 10000$ sea mine can do substantial damage to there ships, Chinese economy and delay any naval operations for months…
And if they are smart they should not have problems to come to brilliant solution; buy modern minehunters and stop relaying on ww2 techniques…

I found this article on Chinese forum, seems to be from a pretty reliable source. It talks about the East Sea Fleet receiving a new warship called ZhangJiaGang. ZhangJiaGang is a new type of minesweeper. Didn't say much after that, I'm not sure if this is talking about the 328 class or 804 or 805?

What about mine clearing navy divers? I wonder what scuba equipment the divers use. Most country naval divers use demagnetized close circuit rebreather (CCR) to work underwater mine-clearing now.

I found this on CDF posted by Xinhui. A lot of photos from a TV program just on MCM operation with 804, the new minehunter class I think.

Not much from the words on the TV program except that they mentionned many new techniques are used. They also mentionned that 9 out of every 10 mines are detected.
