I feel this might be a little more provocation than I am comfortable with. The PLAN is conducting this FONOP immediately on the heels of signing a security agreement with the Solomon Islands. This whole thing has the potential to really put Australians on edge and escalate anxieties... We can probably cut the Aussies some slack, which will persuade them not to do anything drastic

Why? They have been on the anti-China crusade since the time of PM Turnbull because they have been forced to make that "strategic pivot" by their patron and master that's the U.S. and as John Mearsheimer bluntly pointed out that Australia really has no choice but to side with the U.S. over China. National Security trumps economic security.

Since then, Australia was the country that led in banning of Huawei and made the unfounded stink against the Chinese technology giant which then led to the U.S. anchoring from where Australia left off to start the banning, reputational damaging hoping it would kill the Chinese company. Then at the onset of Covid-19 PM Scott Morrison tabled an insulting proposal that China should open itself up for investigation, essentially indirectly holding and blaming the CPC responsible for the outbreak, for not doing enough on ensuring that the outbreak was contained; for implementing a draconian human rights violating measure of lockdown. A measure that all countries in the world copied in a half assed way as results showed. Plus, the constant barrage of anti-China allegations, accusations, and a hissy fit over the security deal between two SOVEREIGN COUNTRIES OF CHINA AND SOLOMON ISLANDS with PM Morrison boldly declaring that it'll be a RED LINE if China were to build a military base in that country.

So am sorry to tell you but f...k playing nice. At the end of the day, China is going to be viewed, interpreted, and maligned regardless of how it conducts itself or what it says to the western public. They don't understand rationale dialog but can only be made to understand the show of force. America isn't loved or liked because they're nice and cuddly, they're liked because the countries don't have a choice in the matter. They can either accede, replaced, or invaded.
