Reportedly, PLAN discovered alot of USN submarines around Southwest of Taiwan. Between Taiwan and Dongsha island, guarding the strait transits to Pacific ocean.
I think this will be US strongest interfering force. I mean DF26, DF21, DF17 will deter carriers and China antiship missiles will deter surface fleet.

This is the least talk about but USN submarine will be the main force to interfere China and taiwan situation

The fact that these subs were even detected isn't good news to the subs. That's assuming the story is true.

Some numbers from the article "Career for brave: Stories on PLAN equipment test ship Bi Sheng" (source:

):
"During the 23 years since it was commissioned, Bi Sheng has launched nearly 100 missiles and more than 10,000 gun rounds, and has completed more than 310 major test tasks."

"As the first equipment test ship specially designed by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), the Bi Sheng ship (Hull 891) bears the biggest risks among the naval ships. All new types of ship-borne weapons must be tested on it before being officially deployed on combat ships. Shouldering such responsibility, it goes to sea for more than 200 days a year, and every journey is a matter of life and death."

This ship is almost a warship to herself. She packs both an H/AJK-16 VLS and a UVLS.

Could then also be said those detected "planned" to be detected like the old USN carriers finding themselves within throwing range of antiquated Song class subs.

In any case, USN subs are probably the greatest threat to PLAN after the carriers. If they're drifting quietly around Taiwan and SCS, these are great opportunities to practice both active and passive detection, particularly newer technologies. Makes me wonder if the US is stupid enough to really position subs so close by and allowing China a chance to test detection technologies in a relatively risk free environment. That's like flying B-2s and F-22s into Chinese ranged radars SAM sites near islands during peacetime.

If PLAN is feeling mischievous, whenever a sub is detected they could conduct a "surprise training exercise" and fire off a torpedo or two that just so happen to skim by the sub. If anyone complains, they can simply claim plausible deniability. The best part is that any complaints would be equivalent to admitting a sub was spotted.

You wouldn't need to do that. Just sending them a sonar ping straight at them is enough.

The point is to hide your abilities rather than exposing it! If PLAN can easily detect and track USN subs in the region, they will be hiding this. There will be no sonar pings or "accidental" release of torpedoes, anti-sub rockets or depth charges.

The Americans are smart enough to hide their abilities and so is China. The opposite of this spectrum is India's Jai Hind crowds who brag about abilities they don't even possess.

Perhaps they intended to be detected? From what I understand, that is sometimes done to intimidate rivals.
This is unlikely unless the USN already believes China has key intel on all the acoustic characteristics of these subs, because a big part of a submarine’s stealth hinges on secrecy of design properties. Doing such a stunt while your secrecy is intact would be tantamount to giving away free intelligence.
