Zhanjiang is also the base of the 2nd Desroyer Division. Currently they are under shipped in terms of destroyers, with 161 Hohhot as their only 052D. The rest of the destroyers are 167 Shenzhen, old but refitted, 168 Guangzhou which is inactive because of MLU, and 169 Wuhan which is old and will be refitted in the future. There are three destroyers in the pipeline to bolster its strength, 162, 163 and 164, all 052DL.

I expect the Type 075s to be stationed here when the time comes, like all three of them.

we are going to have a very powerful Chinese naval fleet soon with plenty of flat deck action

now if they can start on 004 at Dalian it would be great

secondly if they finish the 3rd x Type 075 LHD by Oct 2020 and start next Type 076 LHA and finish it in 2021

then finish next 2 units in 2022 this should give 3 x LHD + 3 x LHA by 2022 pretty amazing since they only started 1st Type 075 in 2019, thats 6 large amphibious assault warships in space of -3 years

now if DL can start 004 soon and get it launched before 2025 we can expect within next 5 years Chinese flat deck capacity to increase by 50%

post 2025 I expect 005+006 both CVN to take shape before end of this decade

2010-2020 was great
2020-2030 will be amazing

which would mean Chinese naval at full strength should look something like this

8 x Type 071 LPD
3 x Type 075 LHD
3 x Type 076 LHA
2 x STOBAR
2 x CATOBAR
2 x CVN

thats 3 x ARG + 6 x CSG

availability should be 1 x ARG plus 1-2 x CSG at any one time this will certainly dictate or shape foreign policy

About 16,000 people signed up for the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's recently completed annual pilot recruitment drive, and among those who have passed the tests to become pilot cadets, nearly half will be trained to fly aircraft carrier-based fighter jets in the coming years. This is expected to satisfy China's future aircraft carrier programs.

Experts said on Monday that the ratio indicates China's ambitions in aircraft carrier development, as the country could operate three or more aircraft carriers in the near future, which need more pilots.

The PLA Navy recently wrapped up the 2020 pilot recruitment drive, during which none was infected by the novel coronavirus, thanks to nucleic acid testing and optimized procedures, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Sunday.

A large batch of talent among the 16,000 registered applicants emerged after several selections, the report said, without elaborating further on the number of applicants who were eventually enrolled in the pilot training program.

Chu Hanqiang, director of the PLA Navy Pilot Recruitment Office, was quoted as saying in the report that 49 percent of the enrolled candidates will become aircraft carrier-based fighter jet pilot cadets, and this should satisfy the development of aircraft carriers.

"In the past, most Navy Aviation Force pilot cadets were trained to fly ground-based fighter jets and bombers," Li Jie, a Beijing-based naval expert, told the Global Times on Monday.

The significant increase in the ratio for aircraft carrier-based fighter jet pilot cadets indicates that China will operate not only two aircraft carriers, Li said.

Forbes reported in July that China's third aircraft carrier is being assembled in a dry dock in Shanghai's Jiangnan Shipyard. Military observers expect the new aircraft carrier to be much larger and carry more aircraft than China's previous two, the Liaoning and the Shandong.

Cadets will study for four years and potentially continue to train on advanced trainer aircraft, the website of the Navy's pilot recruitment program said.

This means this batch could join active service when the third aircraft carrier is commissioned, observers said.

Li said that in addition to aircraft carrier-based fighter jets, the PLA Navy also needs more pilots for vessel-based helicopter pilots, as China recently launched two Type 075 amphibious assault ships and each has the potential to carry about 30 helicopters.

Other warships, including Type 055 and Type 052D destroyers, also host helicopters, Li noted.

Among the 16,000 recruits only a very tiny fraction will eventually become naval pilots. The US navy for example recruited 16,000+ potential pilots back in 2015. Only 1,000 made the cut, and among them around 50 became actual naval pilots.

Looks like CV16 and CV17 will be very busy with pilot trainings (except catapult take off). Even with only 50 recruits from 16,000 applicants make it, that is still a lot of carrier pilots for a batch of cadets. They would have 250 certified pilots in next 5 intakes if this momentum is kept constant.

Combining current certified pilots with these new ones, there would be around 300 carrier pilots. That shall be enough pilots for 4 or 5 aircraft carriers.

Well not so fast early in the program the Navy poached a lot of experience pilot who already accumulate plenty of hour and know the aircraft well. But you cannot continue this route The air force probably helping the navy knowing they are in need experience pilot fast

But now they are starting from the scratch starting with green horn aka high school graduate First they have to learn how to fly It probably take them 4 years to go thru the academy and learning the basic of flying. After that they will be assigned to their flying unit to get their hours maybe another 2 or 3 years Then they will go to Huangdichun to learn the basic carrier landing and take off another 2 years
So they will spend at least 8 to 9 years until they are proficient in carrier landing

That is very true. This particular batch will be proficient flyers 8 to 9 years from now.

Also, PLA Navy Aviation University has been training the navy cadet pilots for decades, the earlier pilot training intakes from 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and earlier will keep on producing new certified pilots who would join the PLA navy aviation (fixed and rotary wings for both land based and carrier based services) every year.

This 2020 recruitment is just part of the annual trainee pilot intake that has been going on for many years.

I am sure they had planned that there would be no gap in annual certification of carrier pilots in desired numbers after the PLAAF has stopped supplying their pilots for the CV.

I always get a sense that you're always in a rush to see Chinese military build-up and ramp up their numbers.
Why is that? Do you have a crystal ball that foresee some conflict in the near future?

Or are you just an extreme PLA fanboy?
