How credible is Pop3 seen in the PLA watching community currently? I know he was considered as one of the "big shrimps" with possibly insider knowledge of naval ship building.
If the 004 rumor is true, it would be highly significant for PLAN ship building as no other nation, not even the United States, has attempted parallel CV(N)s construction in modern times.
If future PLAN carriers are built are two parallel yards, the induction dates of subsequent vessels would shift dramatically forward.
Also why would they still construct more 054A's when the 054B is on the way?
Very credible ... his predictions have been generally spot on and he was a former PLAN naval officer. Another very reliable naval big shrimp, Slayerhuahua, recently passed away, so Pop3 is just about the best source we have on these matters now.
Numbers matter, and 054B presumably should offer a number of new subsystems which brings with it greater risk and cost and teething time that comes with all new designs.

Maybe PLAN likes the ship and wants more. PLAN always balances technical advancement with a good deal of conservatism. Its not likely this is the same generic Type 054A previously, there is still going to be new technologies likely fitted.
