Hi,
by the way is it possible to change the PL15 into a anti radiation seeker
to be used as a ARM missile or radiation missile is totally in a different
league.
thank you

I think there is a big lesson for all involved and especially the PLAAF between the Russian-Ukrainian and Israeli-Iranian conflicts:

Cruise missiles/ALCMs including stealth CMs are intercepted more frequently than BMs/ALBMs, which makes it harder for even Western air defenses to shoot down BMs/ALBMs, where the success rate considering open sources is less than 30%, while the intercept rate of CMs/ALCMs is over 70%.

There seems to be an important consideration in considering that the entire American strategy is aimed at employing "Shock and Awe" with CMs/ALCMs, but a country with a layered and comprehensive air defense like China's could be able to disrupt part of the American attack by using massive CMs/ALCMs.

From the images I see being published here on the forum, I see that the PLAAF insists on the transition from BM/ALBM, while CM/ALCM are published more marginally and less frequently, but that could just be my view considering that I don't follow all the topics. It could also be just opsec, but it could be the PLAAF opting for BM/ALBM missiles.

This is important because in the first attacks, the enemy air defense will not only be saturated by the massive fire, but will not be able to stop the attack with BM/ALBM. After a large SEAD/DEAD campaign is carried out with these same missiles, this would pave the way to start using CM/ALCM and conventional bombs/PGMs/JDAMs.

See, BM/ALCM does not replace conventional bombing, but for the first attacks against the enemy's critical capability, I see that prioritizing BM/ALBM seems to be more correct. I see Israel (IAF) as an example of this.

An interesting feature of the IAF is the use of ALBM missiles. Unlike the US and the Europeans who use long-range subsonic cruise/stealth missiles.

The difference is the high speed of ballistic missiles which exacts a high price in terms of total mass to warhead mass ratio and is interesting against time-critical targets but fixed non-time-critical targets (critical infrastructure, bridges, factories, etc.) could be better approached by cruise missiles, of course, until the establishment of air supremacy where all this could be replaced by simple and cheap guided bombs.

Initial strikes on critical targets and SEAD/DEAD -> BM/ALBM
Strikes after the establishment of local air superiority -> CM/ALCM
Strikes after the establishment of total air supremacy -> JDAM/SDBs

ELINT platforms like Y-9 (ideally stealthy UAVs) and DEAD platforms like F/A-18G, J-15D and J16D are needed for second phase.

To be honest the original picture of the J-16D + J-20 + J-35 looks CG to me.

That said, it is odd that the PLAAF does not yet have a close equivalent of the AARGM-ER which would enable standoff attacks against adversarial sensors and radars on both land and sea. However, developing one from the PL-15 or PL-16 shouldn't be too major of an undertaking.

The missile depicted here seems to be a CM-102 which only has 100 km in range.

An interesting research paper on a novel morphing wing design for a cross-medium munition, which is designed to travel freely both underwater and in the air. The wing morphs depending on aerodynamic and hydrodynamic requirements.
