I believe that these are both mock up (there are no combat missiles at exhibitions), the one that is simpler (on the J-16) is most likely used for flight training (an analogy with CATM), the one that is more detailed (on the J-7A) for ground training (an analogy with DATM).
The the actual munition lacked the fuel inlet or jet propulsion?

...It almost looks as if there are air intakes on the side? But I think it is really too blurry.

The image is waaay too blurry and pixelated for me to tell.
Also shouldn't those intakes be covered prior to firing to prevent dust,debris, moisture from going in and degrading the engines?
