I wouldn't expect them to make sensitive information like that public unless the aircraft basically had the design done and prototype flown or near flight already.

If the list is true, then it proves unequivocally that China's top talents stay in China, and only 2nd and 3rd rate students study overseas.

Many of those have studied in the Soviet Union and even Japan. First rate students do study in the US and UK. They're just much rarer and they have taken the opportunity to study in the most prestigious institutions there too with obviously worthwhile subjects.

Many first rate Chinese students who have done undergrad in first rate Chinese universities, take the opportunity (where they exist) to study postgraduate programs in first rate western universities (UK and US).

Yes I should have mentioned Western countries. When supercat mentioned second and third rate students, I think it was assumed he meant Western countries, since second and third rate students wouldn't have gone to Western countries back then. There was also overseas study in Eastern Bloc countries such as USSR and East Germany, mainly for technical subjects.

Yes case in point would be Vice Premier Liu He, who did grad work in USA in the 1990s, when there was more financial means to sent top students to top universities in the West.

A lot of China's current top brass were born 1950s, so many of them entered university quite late in their lives as university was closed during the Cultural Revolution.

woo, I won't say that, Tsinghua was mocked as the foundation school for foreign Ph.D. program, especially in the U.S.
It's more like China has many talents to spare, but relatively limited resources...
