The fact that they are sending the Su-30SM, which is arguably the second most potent combat capable fighter aircraft in Russia, to a strategic exercise shows their sincerity. Yankeesama hinted that China will use the J-16 (possibly the D variant) in this exercise in reciprocation.
That we know of. Yankee claimed that "equipment that haven't participated in foreign exercises" will make a show and he posted an image of a J-16. J-16 has participated in several Shaheen exercises so it can't just be a regular J-16?
On second thought, is there a chance that they are sending the J-16 with an AI copilot to the exercise?
Or eventually the J-20 for the first time?

I think that’s highly unlikely for China to send its top fighter. I don’t see it happening unless Russia sends Su-57 or at the very least, Su-35.

Only if Russia sends Su-57. Also, China has already knows Su-35 performance. Maybe not the Russian version but wouldn't think China could even consider sending J-20 to friendly exercises just because Su-35 makes an appearance.
Sending J-16, without it even being any AI copilot variant or EW variant is pretty decent already. Anyway these exercises aren't about comparing aircrafts or going for a potential shopping spree.
