The Chinese contingent has set out for Peace Mission 2021 in Russia. The last two images are of the training mission the contingent underwent to prepare for the joint exercise.

A meme worthy scene from yesterday's Tank Biathlon semi-final. The teams are:

• Kazakhstan - green
• Russia - Blue
• China - Yellow
• Azerbaijan - Red

The Russian judge ruled that all but the Russian team hit land mines, so we had this hilarious moment where all three teams were penalised with time out while the Russian team continued on (never mind their threw their track twice). so got the special VIP treatment and got penalised eight times.

I suspect those aren't simulated land mines, those must be terror drones.

Pardon my ignorance, but how are tanks supposed to avoid land mines if they buried on the ground

Those weren’t your daddy’s bog old standard land mines, those are brand new Neural-network Enabled Reactive Friend/foe-identifying smart mines. Or NERF mines for short. Perfectly normal things to expect when competing against Russians.

Alternative would be competing in torrential rain today and not be able to advance to the finals at all.

Shilao pointed out in his daily talk show that this particular scene amazed him, he's never seen anything like it. Gunner for 3rd crew is Master sergeant class four Liang Bojin who's been a tank gunner for decades. Here you see him hit the first two targets with two bursts from the coaxial with barely any aiming, then for the 3rd target he walked the bullets into the target by feel instead of trying to aim because he has so much ammo left - something that Shilao says is very difficult in real life despite what you may see in video games.

In all previous tank biathlons the crew came from NTC which have long been regarded as having the best tankers in PLA. This year the crew came from STC and Shilao said before the games that this switch is making him nervous but clearly the best crews in STC where as good as the northerners.

Such experienced gunners are affectionately referred to as ”老炮“ or "old cannon".

Training with QJZ-89. There're some interesting close-ups, including the QC barrel and front end of the gas system, as well as the cocking lever. Unfortunately, there's not much shown about the internals, but we can see the ejector at 6:19

I think yankesama once wrote something about this before, how speed limitation changes, or suddenly some height requirements popped out or got removed randomly, but after all, it's more like a practice on how Russian was trained on certain tactics, so they supposed to some edges

All three teams are penalized to stop here because the Russian judge said they all hit simulated land mines.
