The New Dog tag isn't just about the tags, there's a whole system behind it.

(Left: Primary Tag Right: Passive Secondary Tag)
The Primary tag is just like old dog tag, contains Name and romanization, Blood type, and ID number.
The Passive secondary tag has an QR code on it, which can be scaned by the handset.

The Handset is a cellphone-size device which can read the Secondary Tags and find all the relavent infromation with in it's memory, or access the database through wirless, radio, or BeiDou system.
Those tag will repalce the current IC card based "Servicemen Security Card(

", wich can be used in peace time as bank card( for salary or pension), medical card, and logistics management identification card.

There's also an Active Secondary Tag.

Basiclly it's a smart gear. It can do everyting the passive one dose, plus it can mark and transmit (in a certain rage) the data of position, height, movement, heart rate, body temp.
It can mark the soldiers position, and the medics can find them with the map using their handsets.

But some fans suggest it can do more than that.

Basically, they argue that the ability to know each soldiers position could be more helpful to frontline commanders than medics.

The blood type should be a universally recognized Rh symbol that is either + or - not a Chinese character!

Not sure about the military, but in civilian medicine the ABO system is still most widely used system for blood transfusion.

Sorry, made a boo boo. I typed the post without reading kwaigonegin's post carefully. So I completely misunderstood what he was saying. My apologies. Please ignore my above post.

My guess is that they left the Rh symbolS off the tag intentionally because a small "+" or "-" symbol might get scratched and become unrecognizable under the harsh combat conditions. Since they have the bar code thingy on the secondary tag, which would allow them to store much detailed medical info, they might have decided to leave the "+" and "-" symbols off the tag.

They have "O xing" aka Type O (the "Chinese character" literally means "type") but they don't have the Rh group for some reason.
Maybe it's like what vesicles said or maybe it's on the otherside, who knows.

So few people have

in East Asia that they rarely bother asking about negative or positive. If the rare special snowflake with negative blood type enlists in the PLA, I'd assume they'd give him a special dogtag specifying his negativity.

The "型" means "type" in Chinese,
Also there's only about 0.34% Rh- among Han Chinese. Many smaller hospital in China don't even have the ability to test for Ph system.

Like I said there is a potential risk to such a method. You cannot always assume that an injured Chinese soldier will always be attended to by a Mandarin speaking trauma staff or even another Chinese cognizant to the fact that Rh negative is a rarity... Nevermind knowing if said soldier is from the Han tribe.

This is even more important going forward as Chinese forces become more prevalent in global operations far from China's shores be it under the UN banner or JTF operations with other countries. Or heck a few critically injured Chinese sailors rescued by another country's vessel!

All I saying is if they are going to make new tags anyway, why not just put in the Rh?

You are being irrational, I am pretty sure they don't plan on having their soldier being "rescued" by any foriegn forcess. And as another person stated above, that special snowflake might actually have their bloodtype distinguished with negative. Also this is about. China and her military, not about how China can best allow the west to understand what is written on their tags. You entire argument/point comes from that end, that western forces whether civilian or militarh would not understand it. But if it works for China why question it, Whats next, a chinese president needs to speak english do he can be undertood?
