To me it's still difficult to tell which side is Ukrainian Army, Russian Rebels, and Russian troops just by looking at the pics without reading the captions. They all pretty much wore the same cammo pattern uniform.

Not all ways. and I would lay money that has likely caused a number of Green on Green for both sides. Generally A tell is that the Pro Russian parties use Russian commercial patterns. Like Spectre-S Skvo, Yeger, Ryab, SURPAT and Seefra but as we can see that is not always the case, a couple of the pro Russians are seen wearing multicam clones probably Russian but then again the Ukraine also cloned Multicam.

These guys look more like soldiers than a police officers!!! Helmets look to be MICHs, Camo, strap-flag and patches are pretty much Army style and the dude also has a dagger on his back!!
Most police forces in American cities have special groups of officers, called SWAT units. This stand for Special Wepons and Tactics

They are there for circumstances when such firepower and tactics could he called for. Ie. drug operations, gang confrontations, riots, etc.

The vast majority of officers are not so armed.

And it is NOT to prepare to fight average, armed citizens, or because they are afraid of them. The vast, vast majority of armed Americans are law abiding and support the police. Where I live the Sheriff's Department will call for and deputize armed citizens on occasion.

Those SWAT units and their equipment, which in some places do include armored personnel carriers, are equipped to fight hardened, heavily armed criminals...as I said like the drug lords, or gangs.
