Do these old and Crappy Daphenes really ahve any value ???

Can't be older than Taiwan's ROCN Hai-Shih class (Guppy) submarines that were built in 1944 & 1945.

Does it have any value? Well if Bangladesh navy has no submarine today, and were given some, even if they're old, it adds to their capability. Also, old submarines can be re-conditioned/re-built, used in ASW exercises w/surface ships, and so on.

As regards the rest of South Asia travel and martial as well as marital :)
links between the countries are increasing and the countries seem to be
approaching the situation between the Western European countries in
the mid-1800's without the imperialist colonies which caused so many
wars between them.

I dont see any comparison with Western Europe so I think thats pushing it a little too far, but I do encourage more travelling and economic trade b/w nations as a means of improving the lot for the poor in all nations and encouraging more regional trade which will bode well for another reason to avoid war in the future. I dont think marital links are strengthening at all quite which I think is a little too far fetched, such ' South Asian links' are often socially ostrasized in Pakistani society and frowned upon. So I highly doubt that, though in saying that, similar links to other regions(Americas,Europe,China/Japan and the Middle East) are tolerated somewhat better despite the strong desire/culture to stay within the 'land', region, tribe etc.. A bit of of a double standard I admit !

Well I find when ever the topic of Bangladesh's Defense Purchase or military modernization come in to discussion two or three fellow bloggers from a very particular country origin tries to be-little Bangladesh's defense interests. Any body wonder why? The respected moderators may please note this trend and do needful. If modernizing Bangladesh's military capabilities is so much unwanted by that particular country's viewpoint (and if that country is a neighbour to BD) then Bangladesh's reason for military spending is vindicated.

Going back to the original topic of Pak Sub offer to BD. The fact is that before daphane class Subs were due to be decommissioned from PN that govt made a quary as to if BN was interested in getting them refabrished. Although BN has a very active development plan for a Submarine arm yet BN had rightly regreted the offer. Later PN decommissioned these old boats and three of them were scrapped and the remaining one was converted to a museum.

Now if u ask me what has happened to BN 's Submarine Programme then listen. Our pioneer Batch of Submariners are already on training in Turkey. After detailed evaluation of Chinese and Turkiesh offers Bn has (it seems) settled for a particular type of Turkiesh made (German designed) Deisel submarine. BN intends to procure and press in to service upto 4 of these submarines by 2015. The MOU has been signed. The first one is scheduled to join BN fleet by 2010. Turkey has also agreed to develop complete berthin facilities and entire infrastructure needed for these submarines.

Bangladesh has a potentially very complecated maritime boundary demarkation problem with both Myanmar and India. Therefore Bangladesh has rightly chosen to expand and modernize her Fleet (both surface and submarine) along with an active programme to raise a maritime/naval air arm. The training of Submariners and Naval Combat Pilots are well under way. Though a small country (home of eighth Largest Linguistic nation of the World) Bangladesh will do everything possible to strengthen her Armed Forces. I fail to understand why so much fuss about it!!!!
