Understandably, China's demographics trends are one of the biggest reasons for a pessimistic outlook on the country's future, so naturally that would cause friction in the thread. However, such a topic's importance cannot be understated and will have a profound impact on China's future national security.

I agree, it is the single most important issue facing China in the future.

What is there even to discuss? We all know its bad but there is no obvious real solution is there? I join this forum for military news not sociology news
One could argue that demographics and population trends do have military implications. Meanwhile, I am personally loathe to shun any topic just because it is controversial. I do however feel it is important to always speak from a place of neutrality and in good faith, without which no discussion is possible on any topic. As to whether or not there are solutions to China's demographic problems, and what those might be, I think we have to think hard about what are the root causes of decreasing birth rates writ large (globally, not just in China). From that perspective alone I think opening up a discussion thread is important.

To follow up I want to add - if something is real and objectively exists, and if that thing is important, good or bad, then people should talk about it. That is how I feel about all issues.

We just need to treat each other with respect and moderators should monitor discussions closely to bring us back in line if things get heated.

It's a red herring issue. It's like pointing out how Chinese tourists are rude and loud. Do they really care for them to stop? No, it's all about bashing the Chinese to make them less so they don't want it to stop. They use it as an excuse to hate. Why do they care about China's population when they in fact want no Chinese around. It's a taunt not a warning. The US has a less population than China. The population is suffering the same demographic issues yet not a problem? Then why is China's. For the West who don't care for more Chinese are just using the issue like with everything else to claim they know how to fix it and it will have nothing to do with correcting it but instead looking for ways to influence Chinese society like an imperialist would. Like the US saying China doesn't know how to be innovative. The Chinese are alarmingly innovative and the West is scared shitless over it. So why would they bother? It's so they can lie like Obama to say having an open society with free speech breeds innovation. An open society does nothing of the sort. It's just Obama's ploy to get China to let the West have freedom and influence in China to turn China in the the West's slaves.
