J-XY/J-35 carrier-borne fighter thread

Since when is the no. 2031 powered by WS-15 engines and even more since when do we have a clear image of the WS-15-powered prototype? IMO all we have so far is what I put together in the J-20 thread on a collage and none of the images is clear or even conclusive to say it is a WS-15.

By the way since it is a nice CG (does anyone have the full size one?):

I don't know what to say but the more I look into this aircraft the elements from F-35 I find on it. One can't simply just copy others' designs. You must come up with your own way of doing things.

Well simply looking similar isn't necessarily justification that one is copying. From public sources (such as the paper we saw last summer) we can pretty much know that the J-XY is desended from FC-31 (which is not a F-35 copy), and the changes made to it, such as changing the nose and frontal fuselage profile, is justified by requirements and research that necessitated these changes to be made, and not simply taking someone elses's design.

All this is not mentioning the SAC's advance in additive manufacturing in recent years, which is almost certainly present in the design of the J-XY. They are indeed doing things in their own way, the visually similar result imo is more the result of "similar demands and restrictions will produce designs that are similar in some aspects", and not copying.

It's alright, as we go into the 2020s, we will be blessed with other emerging fighter types like KF-21, TFX, and AMCA, and you will understand that that convergent design evolution and form following function as something that applies to contemporary fighter aircraft as well.

It will be a very educational period for military aviation enthusiasts all around the world.

Yeah, maybe I look too much into the CG and assume the real aircraft will come out the same way the CG is. In the CG, the bump behind canopy, open forward canopy and ladder are unique signatures of the F-35.

Deng Xiaoping famously said "It doesn't matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice

If J-31 / J-35 is a good and effective aircraft. So support it

Copy or not. This problem is not important.

Since most leaking photos are taken from the ground by fans when the aircraft were in the air, i don't think "new aircraft type being developed at SAC" a necessary condition for witnessing the aircraft. The developers or testers of the aircraft were never the key leakers.

Chengdu and Shenyang are both mega cities with 10m population. When the new aircraft was takeing off or landing, there would be many people see it flying in low altitude. If they takes photos for the low altitude aircraft, it won't be low-res and blurry like the ones FC-31 leaked by now.

As for this pic, I think it's existence is suspicious and inexplainable.

Where was this photo taken from? In another pkane? It's impossible for the testers to leak such highly classified information of a new plane.

If it was taken from a nearby building, then the aircraft must be in a side maneuvering in the low altitude and with the landing gear down. That wasn't the usual operation a new aircraft would be supposed to take.
This is a cropped photo. The original photo was taken by "燃烧的哈尔科夫" from Weibo, on the morning of October 29th in a Martyrs Cemetery near SAC.I'm pretty sure he has more pictures.
In fact, the day before, he had arrived at SAC and had public predicted the first flight of the J35.That day, I took part in a discussion in a group, including Shilao/yankee and other big shrimps.Shilao shared some knowledge,it's about how to going unpunished to SAC the next day.
I even know some of the people who went to SAC that day,but most of them don't want to share their photos.I remember trying to find a vague version of one of them next day and posted it here.-3820ed8e10918030.jpg

I assure you J35 is real.

A new BVRAAM is under development that will allow for 6 to be carried in the place of 4 PL-15s.

J-20 and J-XY will both be capable of carrying either 4 PL-15 footprint missiles, or 6 new BVRAAM footprint missiles, in their ventral weapons bays.

No one is talking about BVRAAM magazine size because there is no particular deficiency.
That's good to hear. It's not the PL21 right?
