Maybe weather is just an excuse. Perhaps they changed the date to coincide with Bob Gates' visit to China?
They were taxiing the plane everyday that week. And the visibility those days, from the pictures we got, all looked pretty bad, compared to the day of first flight. Not saying this proves it was about weather but it at least seemed like a reasonable explanation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes but it has a similarly sized weapons bay.

I think it was pb who wrote a few years ago that the J-XY's weapons bay would be similar if not identical to that of J-20s and be compatible with the same weapons suite. Time will tell if it is true.
It sounds exactly like something what's likely to be written in RFP/design task/(dunno how is it in Chinese).

This makes probability even higher(since it's, well, perfectly logical)

I have never believed the "special date" theory for a tiny moment, and isn't interested in joining in such conversation, but I can not resist to point out the logical fault of it. Here it goes.

If "change the date to fit someone" was the reason, then nobody should expect anything on 11th this year because no "important" US official is visiting, or saying or doing anything? Or in other words, the date of maiden flight should be set by the US instead of China because only the US knows when they are going to make a big move to trigger such demonstration of power by China. So the importance or meaning of 11th of Jan is totally up to USA, not China. :D

Apparently, the reasoning of importance of a specific date argues against itself's validity, always self-contradictory.

Summary:
  • H-20 is likely to fly in 2023
  • The avionics of the H-20 has just finished development
  • The J-XY will be here very soon
  • The cost of the J-XY is 1/4 that of the J-20 (doubtful, IMHO)
  • The CH-5 drone is very cheap. Its price is <1000 (not sure what currency/unit)
Not sure how credible this person is, so, as usual, take it with a spoonful of salt.

H20 to be ready for service and LRIP in 2023 is believable or do they mean flying prototypes? That would mean service about half a decade after 2023. Too much fanfare and leaks for the latter so I think this source means to reach service by 2023.

Avionics to finish off could be the last few bits for weapons integration or final touches to some parts and certainly not FCS or anything that would disrupt flight testing.

J-XY a quarter the J-20 in cost? Unless the J-20 is absurdly expensive, many corners must have been cut to make the J-XY so cheap or maybe new manufacturing methods developed alongside and for the J-XY. Probably also not using as much high end equipment as J-20.

CH-5 price <1000 probably means <$10M RMB. 1000 probably refers to 1000 x 10,000 where 10,000 is the common Chinese vernacular where in english thousand is the term between 1000 and 900,000 whereas Chinese 万 (wan) is 10,000 and used until 90 million.

Maybe program cost?

Thou chinese text lists just their names, so doesn't sound like author meant it.
