Is Globalsecurity.org an authentic source for military info?

For Chinese military affairs, no.

In terms of reliability and authenticity, nothing can compare to direct sources from the Chinese PLA watchers.

Keep an eye on these forums for the latest rumours and translations. It sounds counterintuitive, but pretty much everything outside these forums is trash, with few exceptions.

No English source has the same accessibility to Chinese information as we do.

I feel like supporting your statements with links is something actively entertained here in SDF. I need to have some website to point at when questions arise. I've seen some reputed members cite certain websites in the forum but can't make sense about how the members seem to evaluate. Guess, the information being presented is more important than the source website.

Not the website but who is the author of the post matter.

Agreed. The BEST info comes from Chinese BBS, forums etc. Even many NGOs and GAs use them. The more extensive and sophisticated ones supplement their own internal research with confirmation from these sources. Why do you think some hmm 'companies' have many Mandarin speaking experts with TS clearance? ;)

I shall say no more on this topic.

New rumor from 草根设计师-CAD:

I provided a summary, but a detailed translation would be much appreciated:
  • Work is being done on the J-35 (believed to be a carrier-borne fighter based on the FC-31)
  • There will be no more than a 10% increase in its mass
  • Its internal fuel exceeds 8 (tons?)
  • Estimated to be 2 years (away from reveal/debut?)
  • The PLAAF might also purchase the plane, and the air force variant might come out sooner than the naval variant (translation of the last part is needed)
If they gonna carry the J-35 name it better be as stunning as the original Swedish fighter

Almost every top project is named "Dragon" this or that. Very boring.

Well, dragons are the most ferocious flying beings known to Chinese. It’s natural that they use dragons to name their planes, especially the most aggressive types like fighters.

They do name their less aggressive types differently. Like their Y-20, they named it after another mythological creature, Kuin Peng (spelling? I’m a little off on the Ping Yin...). This is a giant mythological bird that can cover 10,000 miles with a single flap of his wings. It’s so huge that it can cover the whole mountain top when he has his wings expanded. So not a dragon...

What alternatives would you choose? Eagles, falcons or hawks? Then you would accuse them of stealing the inspiration from the Americans...

I hope you are thinking of naming their fighters after pigeons or sparrows...
