From what we saw in prior carrier testing campaigns they started out with seamanship. Launching aircraft was only done near the end of the testing campaign. Depending on how incomplete the land based testing of the catapult was, we might see a prolonged period of tests with weights and simulation payloads before aircraft are launched. Kind of like what happened with the Ford class carrier.

Exactly. Plus, even if we fast forward to when they start test-launching aircrafts, I don’t think they’ll put a untested system (J-35) on another untested system (EM catapult) for testing. Way too high of a risk.
Not sure if I misunderstand your post, but well, if you think you can now celebrate "Deino was wrong" as a triumph, then let's wait and see.
For one thing, my prediction of the first sea trials of QI/II-2024 is still realistically within the realm of possibility, even if a first test should take place very shortly before the end of the year and even if I was wrong ... so what!
I believe it's still a minimal "miss" compared to expectations that J-35 catapult testing would begin as early as this year!
I would expect 018 to start launching J-15T to test it's catapult systems while J-35 continue to be tested and developed with the land based catapult.

Then I need to apologize ... well, in fact I expect the flight testing of the J-35 to be closely coupled to the testing of the carrier, so IMO we can expect the J-35 to have finalised its land-based testing at least to a stage, that testing off the carrier can begin and that requires cat-tests off the facility in Huangdicun.
When this is done, ... actually I don't know, since for now, only two flying prototypes are too few and all will depend on when the next ones will come out.
I am well aware that both programs are only broadly comparable, but at least from the true prototype phase I expect a similar progress even if I expect more J-35 prototypes than in the J-20 program.

IMO, only after CV-18 is commissioned. Until then the PLA-N will likely use some kind of contraption to mimic the weight of the carrier aircrafts during the sea trials.
