I have never seen so much ordnance mounted on J-15 before.

What's the difference between the S and D?
S and D nomenclature is based on Chinese pinyin. S stands for 双 (pronounced “Shuang”), which means “dual/twin”. D stands for 电 (pronounced “Dian”), which means electronic.

Simply put the J-15S is a tandem-seat trainer, or the back-seater can be strategically used as a WSO for strike interdiction or forward air control.

J-15D on the other hand is designed for electronic warfare, much like how the EA-18G Growler was developed based on the original F/A-18F Super Hornet design. The J-15D has jamming pods as well as an enhanced EW suite. It will also most likely be tasked with firing anti-radiation missiles to suppress enemy air defenses.

Seen on previous exercises on the Liaoning, yes. They should reflect the standard combat loadout of the planes.

Actually I'm not that sure since we have seen this load-out only during this presentation and never on an actual operational J-15 taking off from a carrier. IMO it is more a loadout for static display.

I just did a stroll on Huitongs blog and from what I could tell of all the confirmed airframe serials in service all of them are the vanilla so I wonder are J-15S and J-15D just demonstrator aircraft?

Indeed, but that as never in question that all so far operational J-15s are of the "vanilla" version. For the J-15S and D I think we need to wait.

FWIW, a poster from Shenyang. I wonder if the artist simply took J-10B/C's canted nose and stuck it on there for cool effect, or if there is something to it. Take it with a very generous serving of salt.
