So batch 3 and 4 is another 24 x J15

so new are not for 003?

It means J15B is for 003

Which means they are simultaneously working on J15 + J15B ?

something isn’t adding up

why not build batch 3 and 4 in 2017,2018 when we were all asking where is the next batch

and now all of a sudden we have so many J15!

so to summarise

batch 3 + 4 = 24 aircraft for CV-17

and 36 x J15B for 003

imo this green J15 img is just an old picture,罪恶大天使 said it has improved radar and WS10h via weibo  guess J15B & J35 still have time before type003 commissioned

It would be a good idea tactically to have multiple squadrons worth of fighters and other carrier aircraft (KJ-600 AEW, J-15D EW aircraft, and Z-18/Z-20 ASW+SAR helicopters) to form up a couple (probably 3-4?) air wings, and have these air wings rotate deployments aboard the PLAN's growing carrier fleet. For the air wings that are not deployed on a carrier, their respective squadrons can use the down time on shore to rest, replenish, train, and prepare for future deployment cycle out at sea.

I believe the PLAN can get away with the current amount of J-15 fighters because the operational tempo right now is slow, moreover the carrier concept is still somewhat in it's infancy. Should a conflict or incursion break out at sea, the operational tempo will pick up and the PLAN could really benefit from the redundancy of fighters just in case they lose a haul to maintenance, accident/mishap, or in the worst case a shootdown. More J-15s could also allow the PLAN to set up a shore-based squadron/regiment dedicated to the pilot training pipeline, much like how the US Navy has Fleet Replacement Squadrons.

The 003 is barely built, it probably won't enter service till the end of next year. As such is there really a need to start pumping out a batch of J-15s that are specified for the 003? I mean we haven't even seen much development out of the FC-31/J-35 program. There really is no rush, we've got plenty of time to get the 003's air wing together. It'll all come in good time :)
