The fundamental airframe is essentially the same, The engine characteristics are essentially the same. and the models are similar in payload/range characteristics.

By all apparence, the Chinese J-15 now actually reflected less airframe and power plant characteristic improvements compared to the original Su-33 from 30 years ago than versions of many typical 4th generation fighters that came out 20-30 years after the original model shows compared to the original model. For example, the the J-15 is more similar to the su-33 than F-14D is to F-14A, and much more similar than the F-18E is to F-18A.

I agree about F-18 difference, though the F-18E airframe is fundamentally different altogether (Much larger).

I think F-14A and D is a good comparison for differences between Su-33 and J-15. However, the powerplant being the same between Su-33 and J-15 is just a limitation of production and conservative procurement strategy. Changing to a CATOBAR carrier would yield as much benefits as powerplant upgrade in some ways.

They definitely have g-suits, as you can see the tubing by the left side of the pilot's leg, which I'm guessing connects to the J-15s pneumatic system to supply air as the aircraft pulls Gs. The American g-suit (especially the navy guy) looks bulky because it has all sorts of survival kit attached to it..... Or because American pilots are wimps and aren't as capable of pulling Gs as the Chinese (jk of course). I suppose the PLA's g-suit seems less bulky, but at the end of the day the g-suit's job is to help force blood from your legs up your body and into your head.

I haven't pulled extreme Gs myself, but from what I know it all comes down to the pilot's g-tolerance as well as the use of the anti-g straining maneuver to force blood back up to the brain. The g-suit is only there to help out in the heat of battle (picture being defensive in a dogfight, pulling 9Gs to jink the bandit, while twisting your head back to check your six... all at the same time executing the anti-g strain maneuver... you're gonna need all the help you can get!). Fast jet military pilots going through centrifuge training do so without a g-suit on. I guess what I'm trying to say is that its the anti-g straining maneuver that does most of the work, and not the g-suit (cause just like anything on a plane, the pneumatic system/g-suit can fail in flight).

G-suits are only for the legs and abdomen. They work by inflating during high-G to help pilots construct their muscles to reduce blood flowing into the legs to help keep more in the brain.

To have a full body G-suit is not only pointless, it will positively be counter productive as the constriction on your upper body would only serve to suffocate you or snap your ribs.

What you see pilots wearing on their bodies and around their necks are survival gear and Inflatable life jackets. Common for navy pilots and those expecting to be flying over water and in combat, but unnecessary if your entire flight plan is over friendly territory on land.
