come to think of it, I’ve never seen drop tanks on any version of the flanker in any service.

however, in STOBAR carrier operation, the flanker wouldn’t fly with drop tanks even if it could in other types of operation.

the weibo author specifically says the missile and the fighter have the same name, so pl-15 it is

This might be out of the blue, but does anyone know how secure J-15's rear landing gear actually is? I'm a sucker for landing gears, and I noticed that Russian 4th Gen fighters (Su-27 & Mig-29 as well as their derivatives) have what look like a really long strut beside the engine nacelle for their rear landing gears but without any notable support.

For me that design just looks fragile to twisting even though I know the Russians design their planes for a more rough and tumble operation compared to most western jets. J-15 being a derivative of Russian fighter lineage inherited that landing gear design and operates from CVs, so I'm just curious what have the Chinese do to strengthen J-15's landing gear.

for comparison, this is F-14's landing gear. It looks really similar to Flanker landing gear except for the folding landing gear support at the front. That is what I'm talking about when I say landing gear support.

There is a locking mechanism for each of J-15/Su-33's main landing gears. J-11 and Su-27 have similar ones but not as strong.

This should be a pic of J-15/Su-33 landing gear. J-11/Su-27 doesn't seem to have the lock that connects the reinforced engine nacelle to the strut (at least not from the pictures I've seen).

I just couldn't understand how the locking mechanism actually works. From my understanding, this locking mechanism will have to disconnect from the strut when the landing gear folds up, unlike F-14's for example, so I really want to know how they do it.
