I think this is a misinterpretation. The official announcement doesn't mention specific aircraft types. The recruitment drive is presumably for all aircraft flown by PLANAF, which would include anything from the J-15 to special mission aircraft to lowly helicopters. The difference this year is that the candidate pool has been expanded to include college freshmen, and women may apply for the first time. Of course, if a female cadet proves herself, I'm sure she could qualify for J-15 training. The news article seems to imply that PLANAF is specifically looking for female J-15 pilots, which is not what the official announcement says.

By the way ... since we are onto these new H-numbers on PLAN aircraft and especially J-15s I had an idea:


Altogether, five blocks of H-numbers have been identified on J-15s with xx = number:

1. H11111xx for all xx = 01 to 24
2. H17410xx for all xx = 30 to 35 & J-15S no. 46 + 49
3. H11011xx for all xx = 60 to 69
4. H11021xx for all xx = 70 to 79
5. H11031xx for all xx = 80 to 89

So far I wasn't able to deduct a pattern of which single seater was seen on which carrier and IMO they are assigned as per request on which one is available, but these H-numbers make me suspicious and my theory is:

- the nos. 01-24 are some sort of OCU at Huangdicun
- the J-15S and nos. 30-35 are a training unit at the NAU (also at Huangdicun ?)
- and the final three - most likely four - blocks of ten aircraft each are "operational flight groups" (daduis ?), which will either be permanently be assigned to a certain carrier or as per duty.

Do we know if the j-15s are dedicated for training and have complete twin controls for a teacher to overide a student ?

With the cv16 Liaoning in MLU, New pilots will need to train for the rest of the year only on the Shandong until it's back. Don't know how long it will take ?

Would be interesting to see where the cv16 J-15 will be stationned during that time.
