J-15 carrier-borne fighter thread

Seems as if there are several J-16 being fitted out alongside one J-15 and that's what wonders me: @huitong has updated his Blog to this:

But IMO it is not a new-built J-15 and even lesser likely a new batch called J-15G, but "only" a reengined regular serial one. Why should SAC build another Batch 05 J-15, when the improved J-15B is already in production?
If this improved J-15 then is designated J-15G - similar to the J-11BG - is indeed a possibility.

What do you think?

It's probably not a newly built J-15. Assuming the footage is recent, the bird doesn't have the new low-visibility paint scheme that freshly produced J-15s should have. So, this is not a new batch.

Sorry about the confusion. It should be one of the WS-10H powered prototypes, not the newly constructed ones. You quoted my web site faster than I was able to edit it.

Is the present number of STOBAR J-15s enough for deployment onboard both Liaoning and Shandong at peacetime strength + extra units for full wartime deployment on the two STOBAR carriers + land-based training units + spare units?

Wait, are you saying it is one of the original WS-10 prototypes (like #554 or #557)?
I find that a little unlikely given that this video should have been taken at a production facility, and because those two airframes would be very very old and I doubt they would look as new as the aircraft in the video does.
Also, the paint scheme on the aircraft looks a bit different to the most well known pictures of 554 at least.

Is there a reason you do not think that this could be a re-engined, existing in service production J-15?

Edit: also, the WS-10 on #554 was changed to Al-31, now that I remember.

So IMO there is a high likelihood that this is a standard J-15 (likely an existing in service airframe) that has been re-engined with WS-10.

Likelihood of being one of the WS-10 powered prototypes is not that high I think.

No, it may not be the original #55x prototypes. They are either at Yanliang or at Huangdicun. Simply call this one a "prototype" may be a bit misleading. According to several comments following the original Weibo post, there has been a single WS-10 engined J-15 parked inside the SAC hangar for some time, maybe months, maybe years. Therefore it sounds to me more like an engine testbed than one of the newly re-engined J-15s which are expected to be put back into the service. Lets wait and see if this is the case.

Several joints have picked up on the news and are trying to frame it as a move related to the Russo-Ukranian war and not a long coming part of the existing plan.

Nothing particularly interesting in the article other than their typical "speculation shotgun" tactic while filling it with tweets of Deino and other PLA watchers.
