That said, I can see the benefit of having a waiting period for new members, as it helps to reduce the risk of getting brigaded and increases the likelihood that people who actually want to be here and contribute have the patience for it.

Others might have said: ah well, I guess they just don't approve new members any more and then forgotten about this place. I literally have a quicklink to this server on my toolbar.

I don't think a week waiting period is standard operating procedure anywhere but on one other forum I've seen and I have been on hundreds of discord servers and many forums.

Was there any indication that a waiting period applied? If not I think that would be useful to resolve any uncertainty.
