"SD is not meant to be a place where politics and these biases bare sway in any real fashion. I[t] is a place where we want to try and discuss the technologies and the capabilities of various military and defense issues, their technology, their cost, their capabilities etc. It is also a place to be able to discuss certain countries and their beauty, pictures, and non-bias oriented cultural things...bu[t] principally defense technologies.

Common sense will tell you that if people get the idea that one or the other bias is acceptable that people will come here and invite their friends who share and push those biases to come here...and then SD will no longer be a Military Defense Forum...it will become a political forum full of flame wars, attacks, insults, and degradation as the sides line up against each other.

We have have attempted to keep that type of thing from happening and to stop such bias on both sides. I have tried to do all in my power in my time here and will continue to do so. It is what we must do if we want SD to remain the preeminent place on the web where people of all sorts come to discuss defense.

As long as people follow the rules and do not push their bias, or try and insult of others who may feel differently, then people from Pakistan and India, people from Saudi Arabia and Israel, people from China and the the US, or China and Japan, etc., etc. can coexist on this forum and get a lot of pleasure and a lot of goo[d] information from one another.

So the rules are written to forbid politics, and insulting bias activity, etc. and we have policed the biases and will continue to do so.

It does not mean people do not have them...of course they do. We are asking people to be mature about them and not come here to express, push, or lift up such biases over other people."

Why can't we abide by the rules as they are written out that so many seem keen to flout without recourse?
I get that moderating doesn't pay, but some moderator choices are fairly questionable! Should they not act more widely as paragons for forum behaviour?
Plenty examples I've personally seen make a mockery of the system in place.

Can we not try get this place back to where it was? So many easy(ish) changes..

I know they're busy and not paid to police things here but where are the mods!

P.S. containment never works

Old rules mate. We already decided to keep it contained in certain threads. Generally speaking, containment does work. Sure sometimes the conversation goes off topic, but it always gets handled by the super mods. You missed the forest for the trees. I advise you to instead ponder on whether or not your own biases are making you think that way rather than implicitly acting as a moral standard for everyone to follow.

The world has changed, and the forum's userbase has changed with it.

This has been discussed multiple times in recent years as new global geopolitical milestones and events have emerged -- it is all we can do to keep the flagship military threads free of politics the best we can, but discussions on other topics inevitably tend to be geopolitically oriented and thus are political by their very nature.

Appreciate and laud your efforts in containment. But my point regarding allowance remains.

I dont consider myself or my posts some kind of moral standpoint - unsure why you'd make this point?

I merely hearken back towards when this place wasn't necesarrily a place for people to banter over pointless things, and where when our discussion would've (imperfectly) been directed towards the topic!

Do you have an example of useless bantering or political bickering in a flagship military thread? For the most part, Flagship military threads are highly profession and high quality discussion.

The "Swamp" (i.e., Members-club, Breaking news, India-threads) is mostly self-contained, and in the rare instances they leak out, the Super Mods eventually take care of it and ban the members.

The reason I say that is that this post (not all of your posts) is similar to statements from people who like to talk down the younger generations of people, talk down toward infringed groups, and complain about how they can’t use certain words towards certain groups. Since you stated that wasn’t your intent, I apologize for the assumption. However my statement below still stands.

Funny enough, we talked about this a while back. As a matter of fact, after doing a quick search, I found that Blitzo, several other respected members on this forum and I all responded in detail to you. Based on your posts, you seem to be talking about the Breaking News thread since it seems that is where you butt heads with others. This is what I said and I stand by it:
Despite my account creation date being relatively late, I have also lurked here for a while prior to my account being created. As far as I remember, this forum advocated for an unbiased and technical perspective of primarily Chinese military tech. There shouldn't have been any political threads to begin with. However, there are users here who contribute a lot to the technical threads while still being nationalistic. If you ban them, this forum will be dead. I believe the mods mentioned this before and believe that such nationalism is inevitable. Because of this, we have discussed this in depth several months ago and reached a consensus: as long as the nationalistic posts from both sides do not enter the technical threads, the political threads will not be touched. Besides, this forum is famous for its technical threads, NOT its political ones.

Aside from that, if you find a user that advocated for something like genocide, then you should immediately report them. If you look at the ban list, many users got banned for that, and the consensus was enforced rather strictly. If you want to engage in an unbiased political discussion, you are going to have to go somewhere else.

Politics always makes its way into discussions, even when they are related to military topics. What is important is that users learn to respect each other's opinion, give some respect (so you can receive it), and not try to convert each and everyone to their train of thought. Even siblings with same parents, from same household grow up with different and opposing views, let us not expect miracles when interacting with strangers on the web.

I wish this was how it was, but I doubt it will be so
