Yea but aren't Naxalites illegal? I know Indian paramilitary forces don't always go after them, but I was under the assumption that armed milita aren't allowed.
Illegal probably. Just a few years back, according to SATP, the Naxalites had an armed wing of 195,000 soldiers.

Key Manipur Official Confirms Militant Presence Amid Moreh Violence

A gunfight between militant groups on Wednesday (January 17) killed two Indian Reserve Battalion jawans and one Manipur Rifles jawan.

New Delhi: As Manipur’s Moreh town continues to be engulfed in turmoil, a gunfight between militant groups and security forces on Wednesday (January 17) claimed the lives of two Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawans and one Manipur Rifles jawan.

A top source within the Manipur government has officially confirmed to The Wire the involvement of militants from both the Meitei and Kuki communities.
Today marked one of the darkest days in Moreh, which has seen continued gunfights since December 30.

Militant groups have set ablaze numerous houses and schools in the area, leading to a loss of faith among the affected communities in both Union and state forces.
“Today, a woman was overrun by security vehicles … during their [the security forces’] attempt to disperse the womenfolk who were opposing them.”

Fresh Violence In Manipur, Commando Killed As Attackers Use Bombs, RPG

Manipur Violence News: The attackers threw bombs and fired at a security post near Moreh

New Delhi:
A Manipur Police commando was killed today in an attack in the border town Moreh, 110 km from the state capital Imphal. Firing has been going on since morning, government sources said.

According to reports, the attackers today threw bombs and fired at a security post near Moreh. Moreh is a key trading town on the India-Myanmar border.

Police said the attackers also fired RPG shells at the temporary commando post damaging several vehicles parked in the vicinity.
Doesn't look like Manipur situation is under control, I wonder if there will be Myanmar civil war spillovers in other Indian states.

that spread throughout several districts in Manipur on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. This comes a day after two police personnel were killed and six others injured in an attack by armed militants in Tengnoupal on Wednesday morning, taking the toll over the two days to seven dead and nine injured.

Across Thursday, there were violent protests in several parts of the state that continued to be tense, with security personnel and the administration struggling to put a lid on violence that has now lasted eight months.

Senior police officials confirmed that in Bishnupur district, four persons, all Meiteis, were killed by armed miscreants at Ningthong Kha Khunou around 2 pm on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Ningthoujam Nabadeep (40), Oinam Bamonjao (63), Oinam Manitomba (37) and Thiyam Somen (56).

I haven't posted much about Manipur but there was a lot going on. I had a hard time telling what was fake news or not on twitter but I think it's clear Manipur is getting more destabilized as time goes on.
