With two shipyards involved in aircraft carrier construction (and large port facilities, naval air bases, etc.), I expect a carrier air force of at least the same size as the US operates.

The only question that arises is from when and already with the prototypes 001/002/003 / ... or at a later point in time, formed exclusively from nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.

And if purely nuclear, what happens to the prototypes? Are they later given to friendly nations?
Why bother about the prototypes? After amortizing the costs over so many years, and China's economy being so big by that time, these prototypes represent just spare change.

No time was wasted, because the next aircraft carrier is based on the (construction-) experience with 003. For this, 003 first has to reach a final state. Perhaps the hull of the next aircraft carrier has already started somewhere. It takes time for modules to be recognized as part of an aircraft carrier.

:) Keep your eyes open!
Well, the 003 is incorporating a lot of new and unproven technology. If more than one of these ships are built concurrently, it would be very risky.
This reason is far-fetched. You guys will be disappointed over time.:)

Nuclear makes little difference. 003 class will be able to operate the full air wing types as future nuclear carriers, so they can built as many 003 classes as they want/need and use them interchangeably with future nuclear carriers with zero issues.

001 and 002 will be the odd ones out. But if China is to build up to a double digit carrier fleet, then they would still have immense training value for their entire operational lives because currently the USN wastes a Nimitz class on training duties. If the PLAN gets rid of 001 and 002, it will just mean it needs to also set aside a 003 or future CVN class ship for training ops instead.

For carrier training, it’s the landings that are the more important thing to practice, so 001 and 002 being STOBAR means very little.

Landed fighters can take off via ski jump if needed since they don’t need to worry about payload or fuel, and can meet up with tankers shortly after take off if needed. And if anything that will only enhance the training value.

Do the pilots feel any difference taking off from stobar vs catobar?

Guys … can we stop with this simply idiotic idea of Pakistan Navy & 001!!

Other navies have done it (buying/donating older carriers), it can happen for this too. Chances are low but calling it idiotic is a lack of history knowledge or ignorance of politics in South Asia which sometimes do not follow logic ;)
