Surely decisions on EMALS for 003 is made by the Central Military Commission, so that means XJP is involved since he's the chairman of the CMC. But he has his generals and admirals that will advice him, he doesn't have to do a deep dive on the topic unless he really wants to.

and XJP is a chemical engineer, so he knows engineering in general all right

They include the clipper bow. Waterline length is shorter than all the numbers postet in this thread.

Not ALL included the bulbous bow. My post #4696 very explicitly mentions the issue of the being careful to use the shadow, showing the bow, to try to estimate where the waterline bow starts, as opposed to the overhanging part of the bow.

Now, whether the measurement itself is correct is another matter - it likely can't be fully accurate due to poor resolution, and it was a fairly quick and rough measurement. But my measurement did purposefully take into the account the said issue and tried to compensate for it.

If I use 179 meters for 055 reference length and try to take into account the fact the shadow of the upper tip of the bow structure extrudes a few meters in front of the actual visible bow structure, suggesting that the waterline bow shadow should also be a few meters in front of the actual waterline bow point - then I get some 303 meters of waterline length.

But that too assumes there's not much overhang at the stern of the ship, over the actual waterline start of the stern. If there is, then the waterline length could be even less.

China is meritocracy, so no way a person like Trump who has no experience/achievement in politic and government could be a president in China.
It is true in China, a person with absolutely no real merit of any kind whatsoever, such as trump, have far less chance of reach the highest level Than is evidently the case in the United States or Britain. But having merit, or even having a great deal of merit, does not mean having any of the right kind of merit. China is just as susceptible to having people with none of the right kind of merit at the top as the US.

I think we're digressing with our leadership discussion. We can state that both in the USA and in China the government was involved in the decision on steam catapults versus EMALS for aircraft carriers.
