For sure, though I saw some well regarded members of this forum over there taking his opinions seriously so I was curious.

From the little I know, every single one of those things would be very surprising (with perhaps the exception being the length).

I suppose it depends on what opinions he expressed that were taken seriously in the past (and which are not), and which well regarded members here you're talking about.

In PLA watching we are required to take the words of certain "original sources" very seriously where every hint they give is considered with gravity.
But there are only one or two people I would give that privilege to who participate in the English speaking PLA watching community.

Oh well, I like @Bltizo's diplomatic reply and indeed this is an issue one has to keep in mind: A well respected member in community A does not mean credible in another one.

He is indeed a very active member and I would agree, he's a well respected member at the PDF; I like discussing with him but most often I cannot agree. This carrier question on CV or CVN is one and the other his claims, that all J-20s are using WS-15 engines since 2011 (based on senior PLA and AVIC members confirming (?) this).

My estimation and reply to him was this:

"... .. if you look at the current status it is about a roughly comparable state of completion to the Type 002 'Shandong' in November 2015 (right) or 1 1/2 years away from launch. And both vessels are vastly different in size, complexity and the way they are built. "

How are you sure it will be slimmer? Not that I know.

They are referring to the 003, look at the est launch date.

I read news that said it was 130ft vs Ford's 134ft. I haven't measured it myself though, so not as slim as I thought, oops.

I have seen the island in the mockup carrier in wuhan. Seems to me that that island is too big (perhabs the largest carrier island in the world?) and that they could have made an effort to slim it down.

That island is going to take a lot of real estate in the deck of 003.

Wuhan mockup is not representative of the final island design. In the end the wuhan mockup is still a building, with the requisite structural requirements. They can make a certain amount of change ie modifying the geometry of the mast etc, to simulate the final design butwon’t be making huge changes such as fully reducing the island size.

I certainly think this carrier can threaten the US carrier supremacy in the South China Sea and beyond

full load 85,000 + tons with 36 x J15A/B + KJ600 AWACS is a seriously punch

add to that its escorts with the like of the Type 055 and future Type 055A/B we have a one of the most powerful escort flotillas

overall this will be the best foot China can put forward

and its a leap for the Chinese Navy

Just to frame this entire discussion: The third Type 075 is likely to be launched well within the first quarter '21. A vastly less complex design at what is clearly a much more advanced state of construction. How anyone can credibly suggest Type 003 would be launched Q2 '21 is something I struggle to understand. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Please remember my post #2118 in this thread form July 30, 2018 with a well-known cross-sectional drawing through a generic supercarrier.

The hull seems now complete from bow to stern up to the 2nd deck.
