Can you or someone tell me what is the purpose of the bulb. I seem to recall it's for efficiency, a bit like the winglets on a jet.

it changes the bow wave profile of the ship to reduce wave resistance.

The cross section of the bulb is determined by the bow wave profile of the ship. There is no clear reason why warship bulb can not have a lopsided cross section. so a lopsided cross section isn’t diagnostic.

Bulb shape is determined by mission profile and the full use of the ship. Commercial ship hulls don't have the same shape as warship hulls, along with the fact that commercial ship hulls, in this case, freighters, box ships, tankers, bulkers and that like, are almost always operating at full.







Contrast that to warship bulbs.
