Crappy Twitter takes

There's a tsunami of Twitter sewage inundating this forum. There are a few users who make it their speciality to post the dumbest takes on Twitter from the rogue's gallery of think tankies, self-loathing bananas, and other assorted garbage floating in that sewer. Whether they do this to troll or because they suffered emotional damage there and want us to commiserate is irrelevant, the result is a lowered quality on the forum.

I start this thread to advocate penalties for users who link Twitter excessively (even exclusively). I don't think Twitter should be forbidden entirely, however a conduit to a sewer should be handled with more care and discretion than is currently displayed.

The problem is what determines what's crappy or not? How can we assess that without discussing it first? If discussing crappy takes lowers the quality of the discussion, then let it be. Otherwise, we risk turning this forum into an echo chamber. The semiconductor threat is already mostly an echo chamber.

That's not really an issue, it's not a deep philosophical quandary to distinguish trash from worthwhile content. If you're posting from Think Tankie #13424's account, it's trash. If you're posting from Hanjian #48562's account, it's trash.

No, I actually don't like turds floating in the punch bowl and I want to do something about it.
Otherwise, we risk turning this forum into an echo chamber.
Once again, no. We can have a healthy diversity of opinion while still eliminating the garbage.

Who made you the arbiter of what's good and not? You do come across high and mighty with your opinions and they are just opinions and conjectures of your perceived high intelligence.

I didn't realize that posting links of Twitter below your tastes or rather your intellectual rigour is so highly offensive that it's corroded the level of discussion on this forum to the degree that you had to post your displeasure.

Until, you're made the arbiter and or moderator of this forum I don't think you're demand should come to pass.

Well, if we let it go to the lowest common denominator then this is the result. I (perhaps mistakenly) believe that there's merit to SDF and I want do my bit to elevate and uphold the level of quality. The least I can do on that front is flag the issues I see.

I get both sides but seriously some of the takes here are just eye-rolling. Also the response to the takes is just painful. I've tried to dissect the argument of some people's takes when I understand the point they're making, but sometimes the point they're making is basically "CHINA BAD!" and well...

I mean, we already have the sleepy rule, but the problem with sleepy isn't that he's.. him. Its that he makes bad-faith arguments. He's not the only to do so. Just because they're on twitter doesn't mean their arguments are any better than sleepy's.

the semiconductor thread only seems like an echo chamber because we don't post shit like "Chinar doomed cuz sanctions n gonna go back to stone age". Actual news and technical discussion may seem boring, but it is better than reposting the same crap 'analyses' for the 500th time. And we do talk about what happens in contingency situations.

I don't disagree with your assertion, but the problem is that there is a different view on what is garbage or not, and what is lowering the quality of the forum.

Case in point: a few weeks ago you wanted to shutdown a conversation on the semiconductor thread because you thought it wasn't relevant to the thread and in the end you got slapped down by the mod there. So the conclusion we can draw from that story is that your judgement of what is good for forum conversations is probably not as good as you think it is

My take, unless you think you are exceptional, if you see a garbage tweet, report it to the mods. I would rather trust a mod's judgement more than yours. Finally, if you come across a bad tweet why not respond and call them out if you think the tweet content is not good?

To conclude, imo this whole thread is a waste of time because judging what is a garbage tweet or not is a subjective metric unless it is super obvious like "hurr hurr just nuke Washington D.C/Beijing".
And if your proposed change that you want, happened, it would open up another can of worms of "why you deleted my tweet? Its a bad source, but the content was right" "it was the only one reporting it at that time" "actually this twitter account is reliable when reporting on this field" etc..

Be the change you want to make by actually acting as a normal forum member when you see a bad tweet. Call them out if you don't agree with the tweet, and I am sure that the other party would be happy to respond to you. Unless of course you are not confident in yourself, in which case you might as well as keep creating new threads and talking about stuff in general "oh they are garbage tweets but I won't tell you which exactly so I am creating a thread to vent"

Regards
