Cantonese language TV and labor migrations to the Pearl River Delta has also made Cantonese widely spoken as a third language by the younger generations.

Japanese Expat in the Tang Dynasty.

The story of Abe no Nakamaro. He's an Omyoji from the same sect as the later Abe no Seimei. Traveled to the Tang Dynasty to seek knowledge, where he became a member of the Tang court and rubbed shoulders with Tang personages such as the famous poet Li Bai to whom he became a close friend, the consort Yang Guifei known as one of the great beauties of China, and the later seditious general An Lushan. For a while, he also served as the Governor General of Annam (Vietnam) for the Tang Dynasty.

He pass imperial exam and become the chief librarian in Tang Court library. In his old age he return to Japan and spread the Chinese culture there

He didn't survive to return to Japan unfortunately.

There is a legend that he returned to Japan with the Consort Yang Guifei who lived the rest of her life there. Known as one of the Four Great Beauties of China, Yang Guifei is the Imperial concubine who tried to fill the government with her cohorts and relatives, an action that led to the An Lushan rebellion that nearly brought down the Tang Dynasty and did it set it downwards. Historically, Yang Guifei was beheaded by An Lushan along with her family. Yang Guifei herself would be the subject of a Noh play of her name, the Yoh-Kihi.

Why would An Lushan behead her? She and Emperor Xuanzong showered her with favors and gifts, rumored to even have an affair. Fear of the death of old and ailing Emperor and falling out of favor due to court politics and weakness at the capital is what drove him to rebel. It was the Emperor's courtiers who forced him to kill his Consort whom they blamed for the downfall of Imperial Court when he fled Chang'An. An Lushan was murder by his own son due to the threat of his own paranoia to everyone around him.

@Hendrik_2000 My father came from JingJiang and my mother is a native born from a Chinese parents, so I considered myself a 1st generation Filipino Chinese. :)
I saw a presenter on TV recently, her name is Erin Lim. She said she is proud Filipina, but name like Lim definitely means she is of Hokkienese heritage.

I am not surprised that so many countries are afraid of China, so many people with Chinese heritage all around the world. The fear is they will pull an "Elizabeth Warren" and suddenly everyone is Chinese, lol.

Sorry, you were right, it was the Emperor who ordered her strangled and family executed. The imperial army had accused one of her family members of formenting revolution, and in order to appease his army, he had her murdered in a shrine.

The same with Korean surname 60% of Korean Surname has Chinese origin like Tan, Lim, Choi, Lee, Sim, Oh Don't know where it come from Could be Chinese soldier garrison in farmer houses could sire this prodigy But more likely Korean farmer, worker adopter their overlord or employer surname similar to African American adopted their master surname. Surprisingly most of the surname can be traced to Southern Chinese family name ? wonder why?. I know most of the soldiers garrison in Korea are from southern China

@supersnoop most Filipino Hua qiao came from Fujian Province from 2 cities, Xiamen and JinJiang. Bro I'm also a proud Filipino Chinese. We are proud of our ancestral heritage at the same time are grateful to our adopted country. We are a model citizen cause we can adopt quickly with our cultural sensibility intact. Being a minority is hard , we all experience Racial discrimination in our lifetime but how to manage and channel that anger is the key. I'm glad my father is there to guide me and it make me a better person. Bro we had cross the racial divide with our Filipino countrymen when many of them go abroad to work. Having experience Racial discrimination and physical abuses from their foreign employers (especially Arabs, HK & Singaporean) they can relate with us. That experience created an atmosphere of peaceful co-existence.

This Indian driver in Malaysia can speak a number of Chinese dialects, including Mandarin, even without learning formally. Some people can just pick up languages easier than others.

Architect Laing Shicheng and his wife Lin Huiyin devoted their live to find and cataloged the wooden structure in China and undertaken modern and systematic study of ancient wooden structure helping preserve this treasure. In 1930 they trek thru Shanxi to find one believing there must one still left . Their tireless effort was rewarded when they found Foogong temple One of the best is at Foogong temple but it now suffer from irreparable tilting. wooden structure are quite common in Tang dynasty but not much left due to war and age. Sakyamuni Pagoda at Fogong Temple
1619494197857.png
The Sakyamuni Pagoda of the Fogong Temple, also known as the Wooden Pagoda of Yingxian County, is located in Yingxian County of Shanxi Province. The Wooden Pagoda in Yingxian County is the earliest and the highest pagoda among the extant wooden-structure pagodas in China. The Fogong Temple in Yingxian County was originally a very big temple built in the Liao Dynasty (916-1135), and underwent reconstruction several times. The extant archway, bell and drum towers, the shrine of Sakyamuni Buddha were all rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), only the wooden pagoda was the original building of the Liao Dynasty.
The wooden pagoda was built in the second year (1056) of the Qingning reign of the Liao Dynasty. The layout of the pagoda has an octagonal plane, and is 67.13 meters tall. The pagoda was built on the 4-meter-high and two-layer stone platform base. The first layer has double eaves and is surrounded with a cloister. The part before the second layer is all installed with enclosures and has a dozen kinds of corbel brackets under each eave looking like clouds gathering together.

The structure of the Wooden Pagoda is very ingenious with two slots of columns inside and outside. There are forehead and cypress beams between the column heads and horizontal components to simulate the hell. The inner slots and outer slots are connected with beams, joining the double layers tightly. On the first storey of the pagoda stands a statue of Sakaymuni Buddha of 11 meters high, solemn and respectful, and 6 walls of the storey are painted with six portraits of Buddhas and 12 flying Apsarases in vivid and elegant posture. There is a quadrangular Buddha on the third storey and the Buddha faces four directions. A sitting statue of Sakayamuni Buddha is located in the center of the fifth storey with 8 giant Bodhisattvas sitting in eight directions.

The wooden pagoda still remains intact though it experienced earthquakes and wars many times in the past 900-odd years from the Liao Dynasty.
When the wooden pagoda was under repair in 1974, many carvedSutra, writtenSutraand color silk pictures and other precious antiques were found in abdomens of the broken statues, providing precious material for the research into the Buddhist activities in the Liao Dynasty and the history of wooden block printing technology in China.
