I was watching AvenueX YouTube channel, when she intoduced an on-going animation series that's starting to get some good reviews in China.

The series is called "Yao-Chinese Folktales" (中国奇谭). It's produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio, who apparently have been trying to regain their golden 1960s era, the period where they produced the animation film "Havoc in Heaven" (the Monkey King animated film).

This series is a collection of short animated stories, based on or inspired by stories from Chinese folktales, especially the various animal spirits. So far, 4 episodes have aired in China.

And well, the 4 episodes is collected in this one YouTube video, and they are both Chinese and English subbed:

Perfunctory means:
  1. Done routinely and with little interest or care.
  2. Acting with indifference; showing little interest or care.
Are you implying that the producers could hardly give a toss about the narrative the gov't wants to push because their (producers) main interests is all about maximizing $$ therefore causes the quality of the product to be diluted but pretty much unrecognizable and shitty from what the original source material?

Sounds like it, and probably not far from the truth for once.

I like horror comics,I like Junji Ito 伊藤潤二's work. Few years ago there was a chinese horror comics author name Zhugengfu 祝耕夫,I really enjoyed his works. Too bad the environment in China does not have much tolerance for this kind of horror comics,Zhugengfu is forced to withdraw his work from online platform and announce he will never draw any new horror comics in the future.

How come? Does that kind of creative pursuit bring potential negative effects on Chinese cohesion?

I just finished the second episode of the three bodies series from tencent. I really like how faith full they are to the books which also started quiet slow.

So far so good I heard the bili bili anime adoptation was dumpster fire level bad.

So far so good - very faithful to the book which is a plus although it makes it kinda slow-paced.

Episodes #4 and #5 have two top-notch scientists acting like teenage crybabies/drama queens that is totally out of character for STEM type people. To me, these two episodes are very disappointing and the whole blame is on the director. Like in really bad horror (or romance) movies, actors must cry, scream, and/or shout like their fingernails were just pulled to convey the mood to the audience because that is far easier than how to act or direct.

The Netflix version finished shooting and is in post-production. Should be released in a few months.
